Quayside 5k & Junior 3K - 22nd April 2026

It was another memorable week for Blaydon Harriers last week, with eye‑catching performances from juniors and seniors alike at the Quayside 5k and Junior Quayside 3k, capped by a remarkable run from James Cathey in the Junior 3k.

Wednesday evening saw the Quayside host the Junior 3k, and it provided a thrilling moment for the club as James Cathey stormed to 1st place overall, stopping the clock in a new personal best of 9:18.

The finish could hardly have been closer, with James and the runner‑up both recorded on the same time, underlining just how fiercely contested the race was.

Competing in the U16 category, James led the field home against strong opposition, rounding off what has been an exceptional few days of racing. Just days earlier, he had finished 2nd overall at Gateshead parkrun on Saturday, setting another personal best of 17:12, before returning to the track on Sunday to claim 1st place in the 1500m at the NEYDL, continuing his fine run of form.

An outstanding run of performances and a great reflection of the hard work being put in.

Blaydon Harriers were also out in force at the Quayside 5k, with several strong performances in both the men’s and women’s races on a fast but competitive course.

In the Senior Men’s A Race, the club was well represented: Jack Henriksen led the Harriers home in 17:34, continuing his consistent run of results; Oliver Bailes followed closely in 17:41; Luke Wrigley ran 18:04; and Michael Beirne rounded things off in 18:27.

Meanwhile, in the Senior Women’s B Race, Eden Ratcliffe put in a solid performance to finish in 20:15, showing strong form as the season continues.

With impressive performances across age groups and distances, it was yet another reminder of the depth of talent at Blaydon Harriers. Congratulations to James on a standout week, and well done to everyone who pulled on the black and amber at the Quayside.
