We played a Merv Hughes select XI yesterday in our first showcase Day of the summer!

An incredible day, lots for good competition, laughs and an incredible evening event and a chance to hear from the man man himself, Merv Hughes.

📣📣 Dorset Women’s Showcase Day is coming.

Join us on Friday 31 July at Canford Magna Cricket Club for a full day celebrating women’s cricket in Dorset.

The day includes skills sessions, interactive zones, guest speakers, food, family activities and a showcase T20 match between Dorset Women and Hampshire Women.

Adult tickets are just £10 and under-18s go free.

This is more than a cricket match. It is a chance to celebrate the women’s game, inspire the next generation and bring the Dorset cricket community together.

DATE: Sunday 14th June

On a bright and breezy day at Purbrook Heath, the Dorset Visually Impaired team batted first in their latest game against Blind Cricket England and Wales Hampshire VICC.

Despite the loss of the opener early on, Dorset progressed to 114 for 2 in the 18 over, with Barnaby Williams scoring an impressive County Maiden 50.

But, in the search for quick runs at the end of the innings, Dorset wickets fell steadily - and Dorset finished on 144 all out in the 25 overs match.

This set Hampshire a target of 145 to win in 23 overs, which despite strong bowling from Dorset, they did within 18 overs. This included an excellent runout from Micheal Williams and wickets to both Phil Taylor and Rob Douglas Vernon.

In the end, Hampshire won by 7 wickets, placing Dorset at 4th position in the Southern Development League.

County Disability Head Coach Rob Newton commented, “Although a tough afternoon in the field, it was a fantastic effort from all. Special congratulations to Barnaby Williams for his determined maiden County 50, hopefully the first of many! Our next steps are to regroup and recharge, ready for our next match.”

The Dolphins now have a two-week break and will play the Metro Devils away at St Aloysius Playing Fields in London, on Sunday 5th July with a 13:00 start.

Dorset Women's Showcase Day returns to Canford Magna Cricket Club on Friday 31 July 2026, bringing together cricket, community and inspiration for an unforgettable day.

- Girls' Skills Festival with coaches from Dorset and Hampshire Cricket, supported by stars of the women's game.
- Dorset Women vs Hampshire Women in our showcase fixture.
- Interactive zone featuring local organisations, businesses and our Let's talk zone for building the future of the game..

And this year.. Live music to round off the day and keep the celebrations going into the evening.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Last year, more than 600 people joined us for a groundbreaking event that put Dorset at the forefront of women's cricket. This year, we're going even bigger.

Whether you're a cricket fan, a parent, a player, a volunteer, or simply someone who believes in creating opportunities for women and girls, this is a day you won't want to miss.

We are looking for boys and girls aged 9–12 who love cricket, show potential, and want to take the next step in their development.

Our Phase One, Early Engagement Programme is designed to give young players a first experience of the Dorset Cricket Academy environment. Sessions will be fun, supportive and development-focused, helping players grow their confidence, skills and understanding of the game.

We want to hear from young cricketers from across Dorset who are excited to learn, improve and be part of something bigger.

The ECB have announced a new Support Coach Course, ideal for someone that provides essential support for coaches at cricket sessions.
