Open Fours 2026

I am happy to report that we once again managed to host another very successful tournament.
The weather was perfect and the green was running well, thanks to the efforts from Brian and Scott.
A big thanks as always to everyone for continuing to support our competition, and for your raffle prizes, for which we are very grateful, for without your entries we would not have had such a successful tournament.

As always, we couldn’t have done it without all our helpers, especially the ones in the kitchen, especially Jill, Jacqui and Eddie who worked tirelessly not just on Saturday, but from the Friday also, their efforts were very much appreciated, as were the efforts of Pamela and Susan and anyone else that I have missed who helped them on the day. A big thanks to Ian and all his bar helpers who kept you well watered throughout the day and evening, a hard shift for all.

A big thank you to our sponsors, Robert Smith, Drainage & Plant Contractors & to Tennents for their continued support.

I can’t personally comment on the bowling but by all accounts it was of a very high standard, which was not a surprise with the calibre of the teams that had entered.
I am sure their play was appreciated by all the spectators, who also deserve a thanks for their support and helping to create an atmosphere.

In my absence, I would like to thank Ian McD and Ian Brogan for helping run the competition, I am sure it was done just as well.

I would also like to thank our very own resident photographer, Olga for all the fantastic pictures, which have helped capture the moment.

Congratulations to all the section winners,
The beaten semi finalists were the teams of Kev Nicholson and Scott Pirie from Rattray.
Runners up were, my good good friends from Alyth, Alan Strachan, Sandy Tosh, Peter Hosie and Ian Strachan.

This year’s winner’s were my old friends, David Wilson, Stuart Ogg, Alistair Berwick and the one and only David Longmuir, well done guys, just goes to show, form is temporary, but class is permanent.

Thanks again to everyone for being there.
Hopefully see you all again next year.

James

In Memory of Sheila Brogan

Rattray Bowling Club would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the funeral service to celebrate the life of our dear President, Sheila Brogan.

It was a great comfort to see so many familiar faces return to the clubhouse afterwards to share a cup of tea, a blether and many happy memories. It could not have been more fitting that we gathered together in the place that Sheila loved so dearly, surrounded by the friends and community that meant so much to her.

As Donna and Michael reflected during the celebration of her life, Sheila loved the club and devoted a large part of her life, alongside Ian, not only to participating in the sport but also to working tirelessly in service of its members for over 40 years. Sheila was a dedicated servant of the club, serving on the Ladies' Committee, the Social Committee and, following the amalgamation, the General Management Committee. Throughout the years she held the positions of Secretary, Treasurer and President, always willing to help and always working for the benefit of others.

Sheila was also an accomplished bowler who enjoyed success both within and beyond the club. She won numerous titles at club level and represented the club with distinction in local women's associations, including Sidlaw Ladies, Perth and Perthshire, and the Angus & Perthshire Bowling Association. She also competed successfully at the Bowls Scotland National Finals, both in ladies' competitions and alongside Ian in the mixed pairs. One of the highlights of her bowling career was winning a bronze medal in the Ladies' Fours at the National Finals in 2022.

She was respected throughout the bowling community and treasured by all who knew her. Her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, and she will be sorely missed by everyone at Rattray Bowling Club, but especially by Ian and her loving family, who remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Sheila, thank you for everything you did for our club and for all of us. We will be forever grateful for your dedication, friendship and service.

Rest in Peace, Sheila.
