Yesterday we welcomed local friends and rivals Cwmbran Park Bowls Club to The Rec for an MBA Division 2 league fixture. This was our final game of the season and we were desperate for points as we lay one spot above the relegation zone, 15 points above Rhymney Gwent who crucially have 2 games in hand over us. Our visitors were likewise needing points as they aimed for promotion.
The early exchanges went marginally in favour of our opponents and after 5 ends they led by 2.
Rink 1 was level, we led on rinks 2 and 4 by 4 shots on each, but our lads on rink 3, despite playing some great bowls, trailed 0 - 10 as the opposing skip could do little wrong. We settled well over the next 5 ends, with rink 1 still level, rink 3 keeping it tight to trail by 11, whilst rinks 2 and 4 forged ahead and led by 13 and 6 respectively, meaning we had moved into an 8 shot advantage.
The bowling was of a high quality throughout but between ends 10 - 15, both sides played tremendous bowls as they cancelled each other out. After 15 ends our guys on rink 1 had edged into a 1 shot lead, rink 2 continued with some great bowling to lead by 15, rink 3 kept the team in contention but still trailed by 12, whilst the visiting four on rink 4 battled well to get within 2 shots of our guys. Overall this meant we had a 6 shot lead moving into the latter part of the game.
Once again both sides produced some excellent bowls but it was our guys who came out on top to win by 13. Rink 1 failed to get over the line but played some great bowls as they were edged out by 2 shots. Rink 2 capped off a brilliant display with a count of 4 on the last end to win by 18. Rink 3 battled back well and at one stage trailed by just 5, before eventually losing by 7 and finally our guys on rink 4 held out to win by 4. Overall an excellent win against a very good Cwmbran side who now need 8 points to be promoted. Good luck to them in their fight for promotion and thanks for a great game played in the correct manner, that could have gone either way.
As for us we now wait on the final two games from Rhymney Gwent, who need 17 points from a possible 28 to condemn us to the third division. This could come after we've amassed 91 points and winning 50% of our games. Any other year 91 would be enough for safety, but this shows how tough this league was.

Last game of the season, against Cwmbran who are pushing for promotion and the league title, whilst we need all the help we can get in order to avoid relegation. The pavilion will be open from 2pm, come along and give us your support 💚💛💚💛

Last Wednesday we welcomed our great friends from Panteg Park to The Rec for an Eastern Valley League fixture. Panteg started the game well and after the first third of the game, they led by 4. They continued to play the better bowls in a close affair and after 12 ends their lead was extended to 9.
The last third was once again dominated by The Park, despite our best efforts and they ran out comfortable winners by 14. Congratulations to Panteg Park on their fine win in a game that was played in the correct manner. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
