🏉🏉MATCH REPORT🏉🏉
The anticipated local derby didn't go to plan for the Stars who weren't at the races in the first half due a number of handling errors which created a stop start game. Also a penalty account of at least 17 penalties against the Stars didnt help matters. Crumlin certainly took advantage of the situation and scorded 2 converted tries.
Half time Crumlin 14 Stars 0
The Stars started the second half much better and took the game back to Crumlin and also improved their discipline. The Stars scored 2 well worked tries during this 20 minute period to pull back Crumlins lead to 14-12.
The Stars then pushed hard as it seemed as if the tide had turned but unfortunately the tide turned back to Crumlin who took advantage of loose play and used their pace out wide to score 4 tries, 3 of which were converted. to win the game 40 points to 12. A number of injuries to key players during this period also didnt help the Stars cause
Crumlin were deserved winners and thank you for your hospitality back at the clubhouse after the game. We look forward to playing you again later in the season
Some positives from the game:
🏉The pack continued to work their socks off supported well by scrum half Tom Isgrove
🏉Captain Ashley Watts led from the front and had a great game.
🏉Number 8 Lloyd Paget took a while to get into the game after a couple of weeks away from the match squad but was exceptional in the second half
🏉Joe Tams playing his first game in the engine room of the 2nd row had a very dogged game and was awarded man of the match by Crumlin
The squad will now dust themselves off, remain tight and continue to work hard in training to prepare for their next league game away to Llanhilleth on Saturday 17th October
