PLAYER IN FOCUS
Thursday's 'Player In Focus' is brought to you by last season's top goal scorer for the Reserves, and all round goal machine, Freddy Livesey.
Q) So, Freddy…describe that season for us?
A) “I’d describe the season just gone as a success for myself and also the club as a whole, top goal scorer for the reserves, firsts winning the cup final and also the reserves getting to a final too, it was nice to also have a place to call home for once, as when I’ve been playing Saturdays I’ve not enjoyed it as much as I have with Poulton and that’s down to the lads, volunteers and the management staff who make it such a secure and brilliant environment to develop in.”
Q) You scored many goals last season, finishing the club’s second top goal scorer. Were there any goals that stood out for you?
A) “I’d say my standout goal was probably against Lostock where I scored from 30 yards out with my weak foot into the top corner, some of the lads say it was a cross, but I definitely meant it!!! I’d also say it’s helped playing with lads like Cal Dickinson, Tyler Hallan and Billy Dollin who’ve helped me learn along the way, with just being in the right position at the right time for some pretty nice goals.”
Q) You also made a handful of First Team appearances with 11 and put in some exceptional performances (particularly your first one against Milnthorpe away scoring and assisting). What was the experience like from the jump up to the Firsts?
A) “Yeah it was much harder than I expected to be honest as the game moves at a different pace and if you switch off for a second you’ve got to run a length of the pitch to correct yourself and it made me more aware of my surroundings and to also defend before you can think about scoring, plus it was a great feeling to get a goal and assist for the first team as I worked hard for my shot in the team and I thought I took it very well.”
Q) Being ineligible to play in the cup final for Poulton you did, however, still get your Final fix for your Sunday team AFC Highfield at Highbury Stadium. What made it even more special was the bounce back from last season where you tasted defeat in the final. After such a fantastic season at Poulton, surely it was topped off winning that?
A) “To win a final at a stadium with your mates you’ve known for the majority of your life was an amazing feeling, but to top it off with a goal and assist made it more special as I amended myself from last season when I missed the pen to send us out - so hopefully I repaid back the lads and they forgive me now. Was gutted to be cup tied for the reserves in the final but on the other hand the first team got their name on the trophy, and we are hoping for many more not just for the firsts but also reserves.”
Q) What are you looking forward to for 2026/27 and what are your aims?
A) “My aim for the next season is to get as many goals as I can for whichever is for the firsts or reserves and try to compete with Tyler, which is probably the hardest competitor I could’ve asked for. My aim is to get a minimum of 20 and hopefully top the charts for the reserves again!”
