10 Years of Kaidokan Judo
Ten years ago, Kaidokan Judo was nothing more than a few mats laid out in a local YMCA hall. With only 2 children attending the first session.
There were no grand facilities, no permanent home, and no guarantees of success. Just a passion for judo and a belief that something special could be built for the community.
As the academy grew, so did the ambition. We moved into a small shared building, making the most of every inch of space available. It wasn't perfect, we had to put the mats away every session, but it was a step to allow more people to discover the values of judo, discipline, respect, and perseverance.
The next chapter saw us take on a tiny unit in the back arse of nowhere that came with a hefty price tag. It was a challenge financially, but it represented progress. Every session, every membership, and every volunteer effort helped keep the dream alive. The academy continued to grow.
Today, ten years on, Kaidokan Judo stands proudly in its permanent home, a stunning full-time facility that has become far more than dreamed of.
It is a community hub.
A place where children build confidence, adults improve their health, families come together, and people find belonging.
The mats that once sat in a YMCA hall have evolved into a thriving centre that serves the community seven days a week.
The story of Kaidokan isn't really about buildings. It's about people. The members, coaches, parents, volunteers, and supporters who believed in the vision and helped turn it into reality.
From a few mats on a floor to one of the region's leading community martial arts facilities, the journey has been incredible.
Ten years down.
