The Club will re-open for table tennis from Tuesday 18th May 2021.

We will be open for the usual club nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays for practice only. There will be no social club at this time.

Attendance MUST be pre-booked with Dave Parker. We will be limited on numbers so attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The practice nights will be open for play from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and we would ask those booked to attend to try to arrive from 7.15pm to help set up and also to assist with the shut down and packing away at the end of the evening.

Entry to the hall will be via the side door as previously.

Members please remember to let Dave know if you wish to attend.

The Summer League will be held at the club, starting on Tuesday 22nd June and will run for 8 weeks, with a 'spare week' in the middle for any matches that need to be rescheduled. As usual, numbers are restricted so please apply asap if you wish to take part. Braintree League players will have priority.

Summer League

It is proposed to run a summer league as soon as all coronavirus restrictions are lifted. If the government’s roadmap doesn’t run out of road, this is scheduled to be 21 June. The league will therefore start from 22 June if this remains possible. It will be held as usual on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Black Notley Community Association. The closing date for entries is 1 June.

Although Covid restrictions will by then be lifted, the government advice is that we should continue to be cautious. All windows, for instance, should be opened to ensure adequate ventilation. It has also been decided that there will be no doubles as a) social distancing will not be possible and b) players running around (as some of us do) will be breathing more heavily than normal.

The playing format will therefore be 2 v 2 as before, but each set will consist of three games (up to 21) even if the same player wins both the first two. This will mean that the match score will out of 12 (in other words, if both players on one team win in three straight games the match score will be 12-0).

Handicaps will be based largely on the 2019-20 season, given that last season lasted only a short while.

Emails have been sent to all members but In the event of over subscription priority will be given to regular Braintree TT League players.

Hi everyone,

Table Tennis England have produced further guidance following the Government’s announcement on Tuesday about a possible phased return to action. You can find it on their website, tabletennisengland.co.uk, where it’s the top item.

If all goes according to plan – and I know that’s a big ‘if’ – we should be able to start playing again on 17 May, although still in bubbles of six and with the previous restrictions on social distancing, chairs kept apart, wiping surfaces etc still in place. The Government’s roadmap gives 21 June as the date when all restrictions will be lifted.

If these dates are adhered to, it should work out well. The league management committee have discussed this and agreed that they will, if possible, run a summer league as usual from 21 June, or thereabouts, leaving the previous five weeks for players to get in a bit of practice. That will enable us to start the winter league in September.

We still have to discuss the re-opening of our venue with the Committee there, of course, and will update everyone further as soon as we know more.

Out of lockdown - but no resumption of league play!

With Essex falling into Tier 2 restrictions when the national lockdown ends on 2nd December, we will NOT be able to resume league play nor will we be opening the club for any table tennis at this time.

We will update everyone as things progress, but for now - stay safe, enjoy the brief time with families and friends over Christmas and we hope to see you all in the New Year when, all things being equal, we may at last begin to resume play.

21/10/2020

TIER 2: All league play has been suspended until further notice due to this area being placed in Covid Tier 2. The BNCA club will also be closed to all table tennis until further notice so no social play either.

LEAGUE MATCHES COMMENCING FROM 7TH SEPTEMBER

The Braintree league will be commencing again as from 7th September. Team captains will by now have received the fixture lists etc.

Full risk assessments have been completed for the league matches and these include slightly more stringent measures than for our practice sessions due to the nature of competitive play.

All players will be required to sign in and provide a contact telephone number on each occasion, to comply with the Track & Trace rules.

Full details of the measures and rules (such as those not playing in a game having to sit outside the court areas at the ends of the hall/on the stage area, entrance only through the emergency door halfway down the hall and accessed from the left of the club building etc.) will be provided through emails to members and club captains.

Please note that the Social Club itself has been hit very hard by the virus, having to close throughout the period and having no income from the bar, venue hirers such as ourselves etc. Accordingly, we would encourage members and visiting teams to support the Social Club by purchasing their refreshments from the bar area - we have all been affected by the virus and any help to keep the Social Club afloat and our venue available is greatly appreciated!

CLUB RE-OPENING!!

As the league season is due to commence from 7th September, the club will be open for practice on three Thursday evenings - Thursday 20th & 27th August and Thursday 3rd September. These evenings will be for MEMBERS ONLY.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST PRE-BOOK WITH DAVE PARKER

Please pre-book the fact that you will be attending practice with Dave ([email protected]) in advance. This is to ensure that we meet our agreed COVID measures to protect all members.

There will be a maximum of 18 players allowed on any practice night - we doubt we will exceed this but anyone not having pre-booked will NOT be allowed to practice. Members should check their emails for full details of the dates and the measures in place.

Full risk assessments have been carried out to ensure the safety of all members at these practice sessions.

Starting again in September!

The League has agreed to start a new season from 7th September, with 4 divisions of 6 teams taking part. This will be a 'mini-season' only and there should be a further 'season' starting in January 2021.

We are awaiting confirmation from Table Tennis England on the social distancing and hygiene measures required for local competitive play and will adhere to these once they are made known.

The format will be that each team plays the others in their division 3 times with each match being of 9 singles and no doubles.

We plan to open the club for practice 3 weeks before the start of the 'mini-season' if that is possible by then, but there are likely to be several restrictions that we will all have to adhere to and we will make those known nearer the time.

Keep safe!
