πŸ› οΈ AUGUST WORK PARTY – SUNDAY 9TH AUGUST πŸ› οΈ

πŸ“ Meet: 8:00am for an 8:30am start

We have an urgent need for members who have access to an inflatable boat, canoe, kayak or chest waders.

Due to the prolonged hot weather, a large amount of floating w**d is beginning to die off, which is causing a significant drop in oxygen levels within the pond. Sadly, we have already lost several fish and experienced a near-catastrophic incident on Tuesday, requiring emergency assistance from the Environment Agency and the deployment of additional aeration pumps.

Removing as much of this dying w**d as possible is now our top priority, and any help you can offer will make a real difference.

Alongside the w**d clearance, we'll also be carrying out a number of improvement projects around the fishery.

Jobs planned for the day:

🌿 Clear floating w**d from the pond (by boat or in waders)
🚣 Remove loose wood from the bay
πŸͺ΅ Rebuild Swims 11 & 12

If you have any of the following, please bring them along:

βœ… Inflatable boat, canoe or kayak
βœ… Landing or garden nets
βœ… Chest waders

Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, your support is greatly appreciated. Every job completed helps protect and improve the fishery for everyone.

As always, many hands make light work, and it's a great opportunity to catch up with fellow members while making a real difference.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible! πŸ’ͺ🎣

Meet the President:

We like to introduce you to Barry Jerome

Barry has always been involved with the club from day 1 and even helping to get the pond built, He helped formed the club back on 27th April 1980 when he was the secretary, then he became chairman in 1985, and now today since 1994 Barry has been the president.

Barry started fishing in 1957 where he was a member of Kingfisher angling society which had many rights to waters in Kent.

Barrys hope for the future of the club is, He would like to see more juniors getting involved with the day to day running of the club with more matches for them and to start of a junior match team to travel to other venues to represent the club.

Thank you Barry for all your hard work over the years and many more to come 🎣

πŸ“’ Pond Closure Update

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, due to the prolonged dry weather and continued lack of rainfall, the situation at the pond has become far more complicated and, quite frankly, poses a significant risk to our fish stocks.

Over the past few weeks, the committee has been closely monitoring conditions and regularly running the aerators to keep the water circulating and help manage the existing risk. We've also sought specialist advice from experienced fishery owners (thank ypu Tom @ Tommys Tackle - you've been an absolute legend!) and have been fortunate enough to borrow some cutting-edge water quality monitoring equipment to assess the pond's current condition.

Sadly, the results were worse than we had anticipated, with dissolved oxygen levels significantly below what we consider safe for the welfare of our fish.

With this in mind, the committee has made the difficult decision to extend the pond closure until Monday 3rd August. For the avoidance of doubt, the pond will remain closed this weekend.

🎣 Temporary Groundbait Ban

To help protect oxygen levels, we also need to reduce the amount of organic matter entering the water. As groundbait and feeder mixes break down, they consume valuable oxygen, putting even more pressure on the fish.
With immediate effect, groundbait and feeder mixes are temporarily banned until further notice.

βœ… Pellets
βœ… Boilies
βœ… Maggots
βœ… Corn
βœ… Other hook baits
..can still be used, but we ask that all bait is kept to an absolute minimum while conditions remain critical. Every little bit helps to protect oxygen levels and the welfare of our fish.

We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear, but these decisions have been made solely with the welfare of our fish in mind. We'll continue to monitor conditions closely and keep everyone updated as the situation develops.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Roland, Tom or myself, we'll be more than happy to help.

Finally, we'd like to say a huge thank you to every member who has respected the closure and supported the committee throughout this difficult period. The understanding and patience shown by everyone has been fantastic, and we genuinely couldn't be prouder of this club and its members.

Thank you all for your continued support. πŸ’™πŸŽ£

Hello Everyone

We are going to start sharing the history of pond and fishing club over next few weeks,

The first instalment is how the south pond was created back in 1965, when main road was built across the main lake dividing it in to north and south pond as we know it today, The road was laid on top of 5m of silt with willow trees!

By the summer of 1976 the south pond dried up except a puddle of around 2m wide,

We would like to give a big thank you to our President Barry Jerome who organised getting the pond dredged between 1977-1979, He managed to get grants from parish council, Wi******er city council and Hampshire county council plus a helping handing from Tom Duke of James Duke & Sons at the time.

We all owe a lot to Barry and how he created this lovely pond in Bishops Waltham.

Hi everyone,

Here's an update on the closure.

Water temperatures remain much higher than we'd like. After peaking at 29Β°C, they've dropped to 26Β°C, but this is still well above what we consider safe.

As a result, the closure will remain in place until Friday 24th. We're hopeful that we'll be able to reopen at that point, as temperatures are gradually starting to come down.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
