Next week in our infant massage course, we will cover baby’s cues, crying and calming, along with tummy massage.
The IAIM Massage Tummy Programme uses techniques that are consistent with abdominal massage approaches that have been shown in PubMed-reviewed studies to improve constipation symptoms, bowel movement frequency, and digestive comfort.
I have also seen over 16 years the positive effect massage has on baby and parent.

Babies are communicating from the moment they are born.

They tell us how they're feeling through:

✨ facial expressions
✨ movements
✨ eye contact
✨ sounds
✨ changes in breathing

One of the greatest gifts infant massage offers is the opportunity to become more familiar with these subtle signals.

The more we notice, the more connected our relationships become.

Attunement starts with paying attention.

One of the most valuable parts of infant massage is learning to recognise and respond to baby cues.

Babies communicate through:
• facial expressions
• body movements
• eye contact
• sounds
• changes in breathing

Responsive touch helps babies feel heard, respected and emotionally safe.

This early communication supports trust, attachment and emotional development from the very beginning.

Baby massage is not about your baby staying still and just learning tools to help them, it is about being present and enjoying each other. The smiles, wriggles and giggles with no other distractions really do promote bonding

BONDING & ATTACHMENT

Tiny moments.
Big connection.

Because bonding isn’t built in one perfect moment — it grows through everyday touch, love and presence.

Bonding doesn’t only happen in the “big” moments.

Sometimes it looks like:
eye contact
giggles
tiny toes
and a very happy, content and wriggly baby

Infant Massage Awareness Week begins with the heart of IAIM — supporting parents and babies through connection.

Infant massage is much more than a relaxation technique. Through loving, responsive touch, babies begin to learn important foundations for emotional wellbeing and secure attachment.

Massage also helps parents:
• understand baby cues
• build confidence
• slow down and connect
• create moments of calm together

The relationship built through these small moments can have a lasting impact far beyond infancy.
