Georgie (my four legged customer care assistant whom so many of you have met when you visit the workshop), is on tour with us in deepest darkest North Devon.....
She's been busy quality control testing the various pubs, cafรฉs and beaches (all getting 5 Star reviews, much like us ๐Ÿ˜‰) and is happy to report that it is indeed a great place to go for a holiday......

The drive in isn't for the faint hearted (absurdly narrow track in from the main road with 20%+ gradients ๐Ÿ˜‚), but boy oh boy is it pretty here....

S-Works Tarmac Venge
The last bike of the week before hols.

The owner bought this used but excellent condition, very high end bike and fitted Ultegra Di2 gears to it, but found mastering the routing of the brake cables through the very complex Venge Fully Integrated Cockpit and frameset more than a challenge.

It's not one for the faint hearted, that's for sure!
So they brought it to me.

Cables routed, all hidden inside the handlebars, stem, frame and forks, the calipers are pulling smoothly and my customer is one very happy bunny ๐Ÿ˜

That's all folks!No more bikes in this week, then closed until the end of the month for holidays.

I'm just finishing up the last fully booked week of bikes before I close for 2 weeks holiday.

The last week of September is already half booked up for my return, I'm now taking bookings from 30th September onwards, so book early to avoid disappointment.

A 1998 Peugeot, with a full Campagnolo Groupset on it.
A service, headset service, new tyres, tubes, cables and bar tape and it's ready to get back on the road.....

My Google page says I'm shut.
You haven't messaged me in advance.
You haven't called me in advance.
I'm strictly 9-5 Mon-Fri, no weekends, or bank holidays.

So why knock on my door at 5.30pm on a Bank Holiday and then act surprised when I decline to fix it for you?

Sadly, this is not an uncommon occurrence and it is precisely why I've had to become far stricter about my opening hours.

Would you be banging on Halford's / Cycle King's (or any other 'shop's') doors when they are shut, demanding they open and fix it for you? No?

So why expect my business to?

I just don't understand the mentality.
I'm a sole trader. I don't have 'staff'.
So my only down time is when I'm closed.

I clearly advertise my hours so as to allow people to easily understand when I'm 'open' so as to not cause offence or embarrassment by having to decline to work when I'm shut.

Maybe I'm becoming an old curmudgeon, or maybe I just think that my private time should be respected.

Martyn Foster of The Bike Fitters - Hertfordshire and Central Beds popped into the workshop for a chat and a coffee this morning.
What a lovely guy and we share some strangely common business experiences in our former employment roles.
It was fascinating to hear how he moved professionally into providing his mobile bike fit service in Herts and the surrounding areas.
I've sent a few of my customers his way when they've needed a bike fit and all have been extremely happy, so if you're looking to get a fit for your bike, why not give him a call.

Your comments to my previous post have been lovely to read and even more so when my customers have been dropping off and collecting, they've been sharing their shock and support having read the post.
