Tony Returns As Castle Grab First Win!
Bishops Castle faced Caersews Development Team for their first home game of the season and didn’t disappoint the home crowd.
With key player Martyn Ziemann returning from a 5 game ban and no holiday whatsoever, Castle started the game on the front foot. They had to change their playing style due to the long grass and had to play long, much to Mark Griffiths ’ disappointment. This however suited Castle who quickly took the lead after some good play down the left was finished off by the spine of Sam Jones ( a skill only he has semi-mastered).
Sammy wasn’t finished there however as he quickly doubled his tally with a brilliant half volley finish into the roof of the net to give Castle some breathing room.
Sensing a chance to increase his tally young striker Tom Edwards was hungry to get in on the action and after a brilliant textbook flick on from Zicermann, Tom had his chance and finished superbly to increase the lead to 3.
Castle capped off the first half performance with a fourth when Toby Mills ( aka Tony , aka Shinny , aka Hairline ) announced himself on the game. After intercepting a free kick from Caersews he bagan the counter attack, drove forward with the ball and quickly played Tom Edwards through. Tom emphatically cut inside from the pass and finished into the far corner getting his second of the game. The second half was more of the same from Castle who continued to defend well and keep Caersews chances to a minimum. Despite this Caersews did give it there all after grabbing one back and winning a penalty all in the last 5 minutes.
The penalty was seriously questionable but after our previous misdemeanors we'll leave it at that. The ref in fairness had a pretty decent game. Aidan Oakley especially formed a tight bond with the official, who incidentally, was sporting a sharp haircut not seen since Kurt Russel in Stargate.
The penalty however was saved by the cat Joe McKay who guessed right, punched the ball clear yet still had the striker claiming the ball had passed the line. Unfortunately for him the basic laws of physics and everyone’s eyes proved that wasn’t the case meaning the game ended 4-1 to Bishops Castle.
After causing a threat on the wing and setting up the fourth he then continued his top performance by helping his team from centre midfield. His constant work rate, some hard challenges ( an inevitable booking ) and nearly capping it off with a long range strike at the end meant that despite two goal-scorers getting braces the MOTM award was awarded to Toby Mills.
