Health is Political I look forward to helping many of you!

My name is Lynsey Ferguson and I am a personal trainer who specialises in working with mums to be, new mums and any mum on their journey to a happier, healthier and stronger life! There is lots of confusing and conflicting information out there for mums and I am doing my bit to help get the right information out there.

I know I have been pretty absent on here for a while but I am working on stuff in the background.

The first big thing is - I am returning to University to study my masters in Sport and Exercise Science with a focus on women’s health.

As women, due to the historic lack of research, we have become easy targets of every sales pitch out there. From cycle syncing, to how you should lift weights, to reducing us to our body size to every fix under the sun for how our bodies are failing us.

But there is great work being done by women and men, researching how exercise and health impacts women at each life stage. There is research and data we can use to help you navigate tough times and improve overall health.

I want to equip myself further with the skills to deliver this information to you in ways that take the confusion out of it for you, as well as contribute to the incredible work being done in this field.

I am still going to be coaching in person as well as launching my online programs but I can’t wait to further my knowledge to help more women.

NEW NAME!!

As sad as I am to let go of The Mighty Mama Coach, it was time to find a name that encapsulates exactly what I do in my business.

However, I really didn’t want to move away from the Mighty name. I have felt connected to it for longer than even the business has been around.

I want to make sure that it is clear that I work with all women through all phases of life.
I want to get clearer with communicating the science around women’s health, whilst honouring the lived experience of the women I have and will continue to coach.

I hope you like the new name more than my children do 😂

I have been working with the wonderful .r for the past 7 months, it has been life changing and I am excited about where my business and professional life is taking me.

Firstly, I am saying goodbye to the name The Mighty Mama Coach. It has served me for the past 7 years and I have loved coaching all the new mamas and mamas to be as .
The name won’t be changing too much, just enough to encapsulate what I do a little more. Look out for it on Monday coming.

I have an exciting learning opportunity starting in Sept and a new online programme launching by the end of August (delayed from July)

Coaching and educating women who want to enjoy life and look after their health continues to be my dream job and I can’t wait to develop it further.

Expect more inclusive fitness advice, feminist vibes, and a window into my quirky little world.

Exercise and women’s health is political so if you expect no chat about that then this isn’t the place for you.

Resistance training is my favourite. I recommend it to everyone.

I believe the ways in which it can improve your quality of life are worth so much, especially for women.

Figures from the Scottish Government Health Survey in 2023 show about 27% of women in Scotland hit the resistance training guidelines so the barriers to resistance training are already high.

When we start putting conditions on resistance training guidelines, like you should all be lifting heavy, then it can be the thing that makes someone not bother at all.

Resistance training doesn’t need to be scary. If you have never done it before then start off with some simple bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges and push ups. You can progress to weights if you feel ready and have access to them.

You don’t have to lift all the heavy weights if that doesn’t seem accessible to you.

Going through the menopause transition can seem so daunting, especially with so much conflicting information out there.

It isn’t an easy time for many women and trying to navigate how to exercise may feel like a minefield.

However, the basics of the guidelines are still pretty much the same and as participation in physical activity drops off as you age, it is important to reduce the barriers to movement as much as possible.

The benefits of all modes of exercise are important as you navigate your way through symptoms, treatment options and everything else on your plate.

International Women’s day

A lack of basic human rights for many women, gender pay gap widening here in the UK, violence against women rising, misogyny, people still thinking jokes about sexual assault are funny and so much more. This is the state of the world still in 2025.

I am thankful for the voice I do have and the influence and impact I can make and I strive to use it everyday to advocate for women and girls.
I am thankful for the women I work with, grew up with, the women who support me and every person out there who is working hard to change our society for us all.

I believe in all of this ☝🏻

In this world filled with hate and exclusion.

With people suffering and dying because of oppression and violence.

It is important to me to stand up for what I believe in. I can’t say I work to improve the health of women and not be political.
