U15s - MATCH REPORT

Redcar Rangers 2-1 Cockfield Juniors

Today we played our first game back after the Christmas break and first game in over a month due to postponements for bad weather.
The game started off in awful conditions and both teams struggled on a heavy pitch. After an even opening first 20-25 mins where both sides had chances to score, Redcar took the lead with a fine strike from outside the box. Cockfield continued to press for an equaliser before half time with Charlie leading the line superbly and a Jack M shot on the stroke of half time went just wide.

The start of the second half saw Cockfield on the front foot from the off forcing 6 corners in a row but we just couldn’t find a way through. With just under 15 mins to go Lucas finally found an equaliser our second half performance deserved with a poachers finish inside the box⚽️ The boys pushed for a winner but with just over 5 mins to go Redcar scored to go 2-1 up and that’s unfortunately how the game ended.

All the lads put a shift in today in horrible conditions but I’m going for Charlie who led the line brilliantly today and never stopped running and was unlucky not to get a goal, well played🙌

U13’s - Match Report

Redcar Town Royals 1-3 Cockfield Juniors

The boys travelled to Redcar today to play a very tough Royals team in the 2nd round of the challenge cup 🏆

Once again a very fiercely contested match just like the last time we faced each other, with both teams really going for it and some heavy challenges flying in all over the pitch. Our juniors started with confidence and played the better football from the off and capitalised on this when captain Tommy gave his team a deserved lead with a finely hit strike from distance. Competitor for goal of the season!
We continued to press for more but as the half went on Redcar started to work their way back into the game and began putting us under pressure. The half time whistle coming at the right time for our Juniors.

The second half, Redcar came out with much more urgency about their play and really began to put the boys under pressure. Our juniors had to dig deep for good periods but held their ground very well and limited them to minimal shots. The boys did have their chances to add to the score but Redcar themselves held strong.
Into the last 10 minutes, Redcar gained a corner kick, which was swung in brilliantly and was fired home by their attack to give them the equaliser.
With the game now looming towards the dreaded penalties, it honestly could have gone either way, but their goal seemed to give us more of a lift as we went straight on the attack. With still so much work to do, attacker Archie collected the ball outside the box, using his pace, power & skill managed to work his way through to goal and fire home to give his team the lead once more. The goal seemed to knock the stuffing from Redcar who switched off a little for the last few minutes, giving our juniors one more chance to go forward and fire another goal home from short range by Striker Jaxon, sealing our place into Round 3 of the challenge cup.

Archie - Some solid stand out performances today from the boys who had to work hard for the result, but Archie once again with his physical presence and sheer will to press forward towards goal was fantastic today and takes our award for Man of the match 👏🏼

A fiercely contested match today with 2 very evenly matched teams. Proper Sunday league football!

Next up…..Same again! Back into league action against the Redcar Royals next Sunday. Another corker on the cards 💪🏼

Cockfield Juniors U15s 1-1 Coulby Newham Blues

The first game as head coach today for Neil whilst Andrew was unavailable, and we welcomed second in the league who were unbeaten so he was a bit nervous (was still awake at 2am this morning🙈😂 ) He didn’t need to be though as the lads were on it straight from kick off. Started the game well with the midfield playing some lovely stuff creating a couple of chances and our defence limiting them to shots from distance and this continued throughout the half. An excellent save from Jay before half time tipping one onto the crossbar kept the score 0-0 at half time.

Half time I asked the lads to just keep doing what they were doing as I felt a goal was coming if we carried on how we finished the first half. Early into the second half a goal mouth scramble in our box led to the opening goal for them. Our lads didn’t let their heads drop though and continued to play some really good football and just after the hour mark a lovely corner from Jack M was met at the back post by Lucas to head home a deserved equaliser⚽️The last 15 mins we continued to press but we couldn’t find the winner.

Darlington Vikings U13s 3-1 Cockfield Juniors U13s

An away day trip to Darlington today for our U13s as we took on The Vikings in the Matchday 7 in the league.

After recent excellent performances, today our Juniors were just not at the races at all. A very tired and lethargic effort saw the team fall behind 2-0 within the 1st 10 minutes of the game. The boys slowly began to grow into the game, but had the wind knocked out of their sails when The Vikings broke away and scored a 3rd goal of the game to put the match almost to bed in the 1st half

The second half, an adjustment made in defence with Theo back where he plays best, our Juniors came out with much more purpose and energy. Despite their efforts, unfortunately the damage was already done in the 1st half. Our Juniors did manage to pull a goal back, a break away tussle with Archie & one of their defenders looked like Archie would score, only for their defender to get a foot on it and fire a goal past his own keeper. It was a great goal to be fair.

Back to the drawing board for the team. As always we must take the positives away with us and learn from the mistakes.

Both teams today paid tribute by holding a minute’s silence to remember our fallen. Which they both did impeccably👏🏼

Started the game in defence like he has done in the last few matches, but in this game the defence were completely overrun. After the shuffle around he moved to a central midfield position which he seemed to thrive in. Excellent second half from Anthony, made himself an absolute nuisance and won just about every duel he came up against from then on.

Dormanstown Rovers Bos U15s 2-2 Cockfield Juniors U15s

Today’s game for the U15s was against a team 1 division above them who are flying high in second and unbeaten.

Cockfield started off very positive having most of the possession, but just not quite being able to convert our chances. You would have thought our juniors were the higher division team as the boys were that impressive.
Mason, taking the daunting roll of goalkeeper today, kept them out a few times with some great saves keeping it 0-0.

Half time 0-0

The second half our juniors conceded two early goals which knocked their sails a little bit, but the lads never gave up. A couple of changes were made to freshen things up and the lads got their second wind.
Harry S, who had been a constant threat finally got his reward with a lovely solo run and slotting it in to the near post to half the deficit. Jaiden, sensing a comeback, ran the ball personally back to the spot to get the game going quicker. He senses were right because as soon as they kicked off our juniors were at them again, and 5 minutes later we got the equaliser, a fine goal from Charlie smashing it in the net to level the scores at 2-2.
The last five minutes were frantic with both teams going for it and could’ve got the win but Mason in goal and his opposite number not letting anything past them.

Full time 2-2

The dreaded Penalties were needed to decide who progressed into the next round, and despite a valiant effort from the lads, they fell just short, losing the shootout 4-2

Despite the loss, the lads showed heart and desire and they should all hold their heads very high after that performance. 100% the better team lost today.

It went to a lad who stepped up even though he wasn’t sure and went in goal for us. He made some fantastic stops and kept us in the game. Well done mason much deserved.

Cockfield Juniors U13s 9-0 Eaglescliffe Elementis Royals U13

Home game today for our Juniors as we welcomed The Royals to Cockfield for the 1st round of the Challenge Cup.

The boys started the game immediately on the front foot and applied plenty of pressure going forward. Goal number 1 coming on the 10 minute mark. Winger Harrison firing home to give his team the lead. The pressure continued as the boys looked to add to the tally, and it didn’t take long. Striker Jaxon hit home for goal number 2, followed a few minutes later for his second of the day and his team’s 3rd with a beautifully taken finish. Again the boys continued to push for more, and got what they wanted with goal number 4 fired home by captain Tommy taking the match into the break.

Half time 4-0

A few fresh legs introduced for the second half with 4 changes made. With that, our juniors picked up where they had left off in the 1st half and continued to push for goals, which again, didn’t take long. Winger Harrison finding the back of the net once more to make it 5.
Midfielder Aaron coming on fresh, looking like his old self and working hard, hit home goal number 6.
Captain Tommy working his socks off as always, shot home for goal number 7 and his second of the day. The boys showing absolutely no let up at all, just continued their pursuit of goals. Goal 8 driven home by in form midfielder Archie, before super sub of the day Aaron capped a fantastic performance with goal number 9 and his second of the match.

Full time 9-0

A relentless performance from our Juniors today who showed so many signs that they are back to their brilliant best. From the goalkeeper to the striker, everyone put in a shift and worked hard for the result.
Taking nothing away from Eaglescliffe Royals, playing a little out of their depth today playing a team 1 league above them, they never gave up once and still appeared fairly upbeat afterwards which was great to see.

He may not have been amongst the goals, but what an outstanding performance Daniel put in today. His relentless push down the right side of the pitch was a joy to watch and gave the opposition a headache all afternoon. The position at right back was a place of concern going into the 11 a side format, however he has come into the team and completely made it his own. Fantastic 👏🏼

A week off for our Juniors now as we roll into half term.

Billingham Juniors Lions U15’s 5-1 Cockfield Juniors U15s

With a few of the lads feeling under the weather today, they still turned up and gave it a good go. Playing a bit out of sorts the boys just couldn’t get going and seemed to be playing two steps behind their opponents. In very windy conditions, our juniors went 1-0 down. Striker Liam did give the team some hope when he fired home an equaliser, unfortunately only temporarily, as Billingham regained the lead before the break.

The second half the boys struggled and just couldn’t get into it, with Billingham adding to their score and eventually seeing the game out to win 1-5.

Cockfield Juniors U13’s 5-0 TIBS Yellows U13

Today we played host as we welcomed TIBS Yellows to a wild & windy Cockfield.

Our juniors, looking to get their season properly up & running, started strong and on the front foot from the off. The 1st goal of the match came from forward Austin, who ran onto a though ball, with the keeper in his sight, he lofted a lovely shot straight over the keepers head and Into the back of the net. Our Juniors carried on their great work and pushed for more, goal number 2 hit home from close range by winger, Archie after it had struck the post.

Half time 2-0

The second half is where the boys have struggled this season, but today they put right a few wrongs and came out with a real purpose to try and seal the points today. Goal number 3 was fired home by striker Jaxon with a lovely clean shot giving the keeper no chance. The hard work continued, and Jaxon, back to his normal goal scoring self, fired home for goal number 4.
TIBS now looking a little deflated, battled on and never gave up, but the victory and all 3 points were sealed when forward Jack, hit home his 1st goal of the season for goal number 5.

Full time 5-0

A fantastic performance from the boys today who very much looked like the team of last season. A huge confidence boost that they needed and today, proved to themselves that they can compete with teams in this league.

Today really felt like he took his game to another level. His aggression and strength on and off the ball was outstanding and very unselfishly played some of his team mates in with chances with some glorious through balls. Oh and grabbed himself a couple of goals as a reward! 10/10 performance 💪🏼

Redcar Athletic U13’s 1-0 Cockfield Juniors U13’s

Yesterday our U13 juniors travelled to Redcar for the reverse fixture of Matchday 1.

A very closely contested game with 2 evenly matched teams. Redcar gaining the slight edge in the 1st half with a few decent shots at goal, with our keeper Will, doing a great job at keeping the opposition at bay for the most parts with some great saves. Redcar did manage to grab themselves the lead however, a low shot hit from outside the box, somehow snuck its way into the bottom corner catching the keeper & everyone by surprise.

The second half our juniors came out with a little more hunger to try and save the game and put our opponents under pressure going forward. Despite coming close on a number of occasions, Redcar held on and secured all 3 points.

Full time 1-0

A really good battle today between 2 very evenly matched teams. Despite the loss for the boys, they showed a lot more energy & drive. Although the season hasn’t started as we’d have liked, we can’t forget the team are still adapting to their new format & stronger opponents. Today was a step in the right direction, and as the slender score-lines in games suggest, we’re getting closer!

Austin today filled a gap defensively, and what a job he did! He broke down so many attacks coming his way and stopped at least 3 certain goals opportunities by managing to catch his opponent with his speed.
