Shout out to Ruby Grey 👏

Bumped into Ruby reffing at an U12 match this morning and was really impressed. Professional, calm and loved that she had the confidence in her own decisions (correct ones, i might add) never influenced by others, despite some trying. Its a really tough job to be a ref and she's a bloody good one. Total respect 💚⚽️

Ordinarily Managers Player would be our last award but as it was our last presentation, we wanted to do one more.

So with the permission of Mel we started what we hope will be an annual award across the ladies and girls section for Outstanding Contribution to the Ladies and Girls Section 🏆

This player stated playing in this team at just 8 years old and saw them through The Belles and The Blades being our longest standing player.

She has never had her head turned despite many offers, she has captained this team throughout those years and also plays her football for her school team and supporting other Birtley teams through dual signing.

She has assisted with younger teams via Wildcats and is relied upon by Elle and Dionne before her, she is also a qualified referee and regularly referees the younger Birtley teams at Birtley.

Like Lexie, she has had some knocks in goal and had to take some time out in parts but always shows resilience and bounces back, she’s also spent a lot of time over this season playing outfield for the benefit of the team when numbers have been low.

She’s a regular in supporting our ladies side and is a loyal and fierce member of Birtley Town and just an excellent ambassador for girls football so for Outstanding Contribution to Birtley Town Ladies and Girls, we were honoured to present to Ruby Grey ⚽️💚

Managers Player 🏆

Mangers Player is about attitude and commitment on and off the pitch, effort in training and matches, communication, acting on feedback and making an impact on the pitch.

Our choice for this year only actually joined us around presentation time last year but she quickly settled in and became a key player.

In matches she’s strong and consistently battles for the ball, never giving up despite some heavy challenges over the season. Unfortunately, illness has impacted on her towards the end of the season and she has been a big miss but regardless of her recent absence, she deserves this award. This year’s Managers Player went to Ruby Newall ⚽️💚
