The aim of the "SJUS" model is ultimately to produce professional football players. In essence, each player will receive a unique training and instruction plan based on individual needs. During the individuals journey emphasis will be placed on three things: Continuing healthy mental status of the player, Development of natural technical ability, and Transposing individuality into a team environment. Setting it aside from other soccer schemes the Simon Johnson Universal Soccer programme will through continual assessment, action planning and programme development, support and guide the player throughout the whole of his/her professional career. Our current scheme is aimed at young people in the West Midlands between the ages of 5 and 18. WHAT WE OFFER:

As a scout for Nottingham Forest, I’m often approached by scouts from other clubs asking if I’m aware of talented players who aren’t quite ready for a Category 1 academy. That’s why I felt this was the right step to take, to support players within our local community and beyond.

🔹 The Process

We’re holding open trials for players ready to impress.

✅ Start with “Raise Your Game” presentation delivered by Michael Duberry (ex Chelsea, Leeds Utd, Stoke City)

✅ technical session (30 minutes)

✅ Move into a game scenario

🔹 Age Groups

⚽️ U15’s/16’s
⚽ U13’s/14’s
⚽ U11’s/12’s
⚽️ U10’s/9’s

🔹 Training

⚽ Once per month on a Sunday (extra sessions before big games)

🔹 The Opportunity

Successful players will represent SJUS in showcase games against local professional (cat 1,2&3) clubs.

This is more than just a trial, it’s your opportunity to showcase your talent, develop your game, and test yourself against the best.

This was a little trick I would use frequently in matches.

A defender’s responsibility is to get tight and force the play backwards. However, when an attacker understands that it is impossible for a defender to always achieve that, use their forward momentum to your benefit. Have a clear picture of where the space is your touch needs to take you. It is too difficult for them to slow down when working hard to get tight and if the touch is right, they’re out of the game.

Constantly checking your shoulder so you can gage the distance is vital 💪🏽

If it was easy, everyone would do it. I get what it’s like being a youngster and having a coach/mentor in your ear 24 7.

The facts are, the football industry is ruthless and it owes nobody anything. If you want it, graft for it or drop the expectations.

I have been tinkering with this idea on and off for years. The majority of young players I work with don’t fully understand what level they need to be working at. So instead of talking, I’m going to show them with actions.
