BRS travelled to the Navigation Inn this week to Stoke (hehe) the rivalry against a team they’d already faced several times Prior (hehe).

BRS started well and kept the ball on the ground, but made good use of the open space down the flanks on occasion, utilising the pace of Shane “Delivery Man” Kelly and Matty “Road Runner” Albutt on the wings.

Within 10 minutes, Kiran “Quarterback” Kellman sent a ball down the wing for Shane to run on to down the right, cutting in onto that trusty left and baiting the keeper before squaring to Ben “Tap-In” Dugmore to roll into an empty net from 6 yards.

Not too long after, BRS stood firm through some testing set-pieces and then hit back ruthlessly on the break - Mal “Slippy” Mitchell somehow clearing the ball in his own box with his back, setting off a rapid break down left, with Shane having switched wings, racing away towards the edge of the box to then cross for the 6 yard specialist Dugmore to shank in off the post for 2-0.

With BRS in control, the game slowed pace a little, and Stoke Prior managed to keep threatening with their set-pieces and long throws. However, BRS continued being decisive on the break, Kellman once again turning creator to send Luke “Happy” Hancock through on goal, who took his time to weigh up his options before dinking a cheeky lob over the onrushing goalkeeper to make it 3-0 just before half time.

After the break, BRS took a short while to get back up to speed, but largely remained in control of the game. With 57 minutes on the clock, Ben Dugmore turned creator this time by feeding Shane Kelly this time, with Shane shimmying his way into the box and cutting across to the centre to shoot low past the goalkeeper and make it 4-0.

Shortly after this goal, Dugmore got himself a 10 minute rest on the sidelines for some overzealous verbals towards the referee, which slowed down the BRS attack for a short while. However, once he was back on the pitch, the game immediately picked up where he’d left it, and on 70 minutes Shane Kelly revved up the assist machine once more and slid the ball through to Luke Hancock who jinked around the keeper on the edge of the box, leaving him in no-man’s-land and giving himself an open goal to slot in left-footed for 5-0.

Two minutes later, Shane danced around in the box before shooting from an angle straight at the goalkeeper. Fortunately, the ball knew the script and landed at the feet of Mal Mitchell for him to tap in from short range to make it 6-0.

A solid performance from BRS and a few stand-out individual showings continue the good form for BRS (and yet another clean sheet for Leigh “Velcro-hands” Cruise). Many thanks to Stoke Prior for a good game and thanks to the referee for a fair showing.

BRS played their Remembrance Sunday fixture at home to Racing Club RB this weekend, marking the occasions with five goals and a clean sheet as their recent momentum continues to gather pace.

That said, it seemed to take the boys in red a few minutes to wake up, as they started the game on their heels somewhat with Racing Club putting some early pressure on the back line and playing mostly in the BRS half, but the ever-alert Nate “Tidy” Hancock swept up any danger that reared its head.

Thankfully, after almost half an hour, the BRS boys clicked into gear and the link up between Shane “Robben” Kelly and Luke “Firecracker” Hancock was in full evidence as Shane played a nifty one-two with Luke through the middle of the park, setting Shane free to surge on goal and poke past the keeper for 1-0.

Five minutes later, the combination struck once more, Shane providing the assist this time for Luke from a corner, sending an outswinger to the edge of the 6 yard box and Luke looping his header to the moon and back before it dropped over the goalie’s head to make it 2-0.

Half-time came and went with a few choice words and a little kiss-and-make-up for good measure, and BRS continued the second half where they left off.

On around 50 minutes, BRS started a lethal counter from their own box, Nate “Rocket” Hancock, Mal “Explosive” Mitchell and Aidan “Sparkler” Davies all combining with speed and quick thinking to supply the creative masterclass of Shane Kelly once more as he flew down the right wing and crossed low for Matty “Evil Spock” Albutt to catch nicely with an improvised volley to make it 3-0 (and get wiped out by Luke Hancock as a celebration).

Only five minutes later, another rapid BRS attack surged down the right hand side once more. Starting from inside their owm 18-yard box, after Nathan sprayed the ball out wide for fullback Jayden "Zanetti" Kumas to chest down and collect, before knocking it forward to Shane, who clocked up a hattrick of assists by setting up Aidan Davies with a one-two a fair way out and at a sharp angle, who drilled a low shot into the far corner for 4-0.

The game then slowed down for a while and BRS played at more of an exhibition pace, protecting their comfortable lead. However, the fireworks weren’t finished, as with 85 minutes on the clock, “Kellnaldo” started up some fairly unnecessary stepovers just past the centre circle, jinked past his man and, seeing the keeper off his line, hit a frankly ridiculous shot soaring high over the goalkeeper and into the net to cap off a superb display from the BRS boys.

Another week, another win for BRS and a clean sheet to boot for the impressive Leigh “Impenetrable” Cruise between the sticks, and the CB-pairing of Josh "Bumblebee" Chapman and Nathan "Optimus Prime" Hancock. A great shift from all the boys, special shout out to the club linesman and cheerleader Denniel "Sesh-Monster" George, and to subs Kyle and Chaz for doing their part in securing the win and clean sheet once they came on.

A Halloween Horror for BRS United, as injuries and limited numbers plagued the team, and we didn't have the legs nor the cohesion to see out a game that we led 1-0 at half-time.

BRS were largely in control in the first half, and with the way the play was, you would have expected us to be a couple of goals more in front at half-time; though the keeper wasn't really ever properly tested, truth be told.

The goal coming from a great delivery by left-winger Kiran "Delay" Kellman, to meet the head of Luke "Distracted" Hancock to score his second headed goal in 2 games.

BRS stopped pressing from the front in the second half and so the pressure mounted on the midfield and the defence, with the only response we could muster being lots of attempted long-balls over the top, as a result. The team was no longer cohesive, and the ghoulish moaning and getting on each other's back, which has been shown time and time again to never, ever, ever help the team play better in all of our lives as players so far 🙄🙄🙄, became detrimental to the team's focus, drive, and ability.

A saved penalty seemed to be the turning point for Brandwood, as they clawed their way back into the game with hard-work, determination, pressing, teamwork, and lots of positivity (who'd have thought it, ey 🙃) being the key to their comeback, as they turned the game around and ran out as 3-1 winners.

Well done Brandwood on grabbing your first league win of the season, I'm sure you'll be bagging a lot more.

We have to have a long hard look at ourselves, however, and get recruiting once more this week.

A great start to the BSA Cup campaign for BRS United Sunday FC, as they came out deserved winners in a one-sided affair against Beoley Swifts FC, from the division below.

Early in the game, captain-for-the-day Jack Garghan suffered a serious ankle injury after turning, without contact, and needed to be subbed off immediately before heading to A&E. This has since been confirmed as a fractured ankle and we all wish Jack a speedy recovery 🤞🏻.

It was a fairly even game for the first 30 minutes, and whilst BRS controlled the possession, they never really upped the tempo to trouble Beoley or create any clear-cut chances.

The patience paid off just before half-time, as a cross delivered from winger Shane Kelly was met by the head of a Beoley defender, who could only scuff it backwards to BRS striker Luke Hancock, who redirected it backwards with a headed effort to the far post. 1-0.

BRS suddenly came alive, and with just a couple of minutes remaining of the first half, started pressing Beoley all over the pitch, and caught out their defence once more, with Mr Hancock leaping on an error to slot home and make it 2-0 before the break.

We came out firing in the second half, scoring 3 goals in fairly quick succession to put the result soundly to bed by the 60-minute mark.

The 3rd was an absolutely wonder-goal by Midfield Maestro Malachi Mitchell, seeing his curled effort from range hit the top top top right bins.

Luke completed his hattrick after a spill from the opposition keeper saw hit shot roll through his legs, before Luke turned provider and set up Shane Kelly at the backpost for a tap-in.

A few substitutions were made to see out the game and get some minutes in for other players, with 2 of them adding their names to the scoresheet.

One sub, Forever-in-recovery Manager Jones, pounced on a rebound from a close-range Jason Timmington shot on goal to squeeze one in at the near post from a couple of yards out (and the ball was definitely, definitively, with all certainty, over the line before the keeper kicked it into his own net 👀).

The other, keeper-come-winger Rahim, relived his goalscoring pre-season outfield days and tackled the opposition keeper before slamming home into an empty net.

A great result, but was overshadowed by Jack's horrible injury, and Luke telling the team they're not good enough at 7-nil up. 😅

BRS Sunday met Stoke Prior for what seems the 16th time this season, playing out a 3-3 draw that resulted in a defeat on penalties for the home side.

Appropriately enough for the spooky season, BRS will be having recurring nightmares about Stoke Prior considering how often they’ve played each other already, and will be pinching themselves for the missed opportunity to progress in the Terry Cup in today’s fixture.
BRS created a fair few half-chances early in the match, testing the Stoke Prior goalie (and the side netting) but neither would concede.

That is until a free kick from halfway was bounced back and forth before ending up out wide on the right, and then was hooked back in to the box for Jack “O’Lantern” Garghan to control and then tap in for 1-0 after 15 minutes.

BRS continued to create chances but nothing particularly clear cut. Stoke Prior had a few efforts too, and after around half an hour had a Hallowe’en horror show, as an unfortunate miscontrol from Muhammad "The Scream" Rahim in goal spilled the ball to the Stoke Prior striker to tap into an empty net for 1-1. 👻

The Hocus Pocus continued for BRS - shortly before the break Stoke Prior got a free-kick out wide and monster-mashed it into the mixer, their striker leaped highest to knock it down and allow another Stoke player to tap in from short range, 1-2.

The half-time team talk was a tame one, knowing that if BRS continued to create their chances, they could take back control of the game. Strangely though, the second half was a tame affair for the most part, with far fewer chances than the first 45 and all of the action coming towards the end.

At the 75th minute mark, a hopeful ball launched down the BRS left wing resulted in a defensive mix up, the ball dropping to Oliver “Dem Bones” Jones who reacted quickest to lob a half-volley left-footed high over the stranded goalkeeper into the far corner to equalise for 2-2. 🦴

BRS then thought they had won it late on, a corner worked short was played nicely into the box to Jason “Staccato” Timmington, and rather than ‘Walken’ it past the defenders decided to lay it off to Nate “Frankenzoot” Hancock to slam in the net for 3-2.
The joy was short-lived though, as Stoke Prior rose from the grave to level once more by punting a deep free-kick into the box at the death, evading everyone and soaring straight into the net to make it 3-3, and send the game to penalties. 🪦

The penalties mirrored the rollercoaster of the regular game, with BRS falling to 3-1 before levelling at 3-3 after the first five spot-kicks, only to miss the first of the sudden death kicks and Stoke Prior to score theirs to seal the game. 💀

BRS squared up against familiar opponents Racing Club this morning, braving the torrential rain to play out a 13-goal “Stunner in Studley”.

The first half was an even and scrappy affair. BRS managed to take an early lead through Matty “AWOL” Albutt, reacting first to a rebound from Nathan “Zooted” Hancock to slot home for 0-1.

After having a penalty shout reversed and given a yellow for simulation, Racing Club eventually managed to equalise with a tame header across the box for 1-1.
BRS hit back shortly after, Kellman having an effort from a cross rebound towards Luke “Baccy” Hancock who reacted quickly to slam home left-footed for 1-2.

Towards the end of the half, Racing Club started to take control and managed to equalise for 2-2, then take the lead shortly after for 3-2. Racing then won their penalty just before the break, however Leigh “Don’t Lose” Cruise read the striker’s mind and dived to his right to keep it out.

Half-time came around and manager Oliver “The *Special* One” Jones made the sensible tactical substitution to remove human beanbag Ian “Pumba” Cooper from the action, and boy did it pay dividends...

BRS came out for the second-half flying, knocking in a flurry of goals in the first 10 minutes. Matty “Slenderman” Albutt grabbed his second from the kick-off with a nice finish from a tight angle, being set up by Jason “Timon” Timmington for 3-3.

"Late Bloomer" Kellman seemed to have used the first half to warm-up, stepping out like a changed man with a quick fire brace shortly after Matty's goal, almost identical finishes, first set up by Nathan H and then by his brother Luke, sending Kellman sprinting down the right flank and surging into the box before firing low into the opposite corner on both occasions to make it 3-4 and then 3-5.

Within minutes it was 3-6 as Nate Hancock hustled and battled (who needs assists?) in the centre and bullied his way into the box and finished into the roof of the net (almost like he was desperate for it 👀).

Luke then made it 3-7 with a delightful lob from Kellman’s ball over the top, dinking it first time (possibly off the shin) over the helpless keeper and into the net.

Soon after, Luke grabbed a deserved hattrick, needing absolutely no help to XL Bully his way through the midfield all by himself and slot home for 3-8.

BRS were almost done, but grabbed their 9th through Jason “Banana Rum” Timmington, as he ghosted unnoticed into the box (likely unmarked because his two-dimensional frame makes him invisible from certain angles) and was allowed a simple tap in from 3 yards out to make it 3-9.

Racing managed to grab a consolation towards the end to make it 4-9, but the writing was on the wall at that point and with further saves from Leigh "All About That Bass" Cruise, and some superbly timed tackles from Alex "Indomitable" Huntley doing another brilliant CB shift, BRS soon celebrated their first league win of the season.

Big thanks to Racing for the game, and good luck to them for the season. BRS hope to continue the recent improvement in form next week against Rubery Memorial at home.

BRS got their first league point on the board this morning after a rollercoaster of a game against Churchfields. Once again starting with a bare 11, BRS put in a dogged performance to go toe-to-toe with their opposition on a slick, rain-soaked pitch and came out with a deserved draw.

BRS started brightly despite the miserable weather trying its best to sabotage any attempt at good football. The first half began with a few half-chances created but nothing clear cut for BRS, despite having the better of the ball.
Unfortunately, Churchfield’s first decent attack ended with a goal as a swift counter forced an own-goal from BRS, as a dangerous angled ball whipped into the area could only be slammed past the helpless goalie by his own defender for 1-0.

BRS didn’t allow their heads to drop, inspired by their confident start, and within 10 minutes had equalised, with Jason “All My Heung-Min Sons” Timmington wriggling himself into the middle and sending Oliver “Broken” Jones between the two centre-backs with a lovely through-ball, allowing the Ego upfront to fire past the keeper to level at 1-1.

BRS’ joy did not last long, however, as Churchfields hit back almost immediately from kick-off, intercepting the ball in midfield and sending their striker charging down the pitch, skipping several challenges and arrowing a finish into the bottom corner to take the lead once more for 2-1.

The first-half continued to provide highlights, as not long after that BRS steadied themselves and the bromance of Timmington and Jones bore fruit once more, albeit with the roles reversed (they’re a modern couple) - Oliver this time providing the assist for Jason with a cheeky back-heel that took a couple of defenders out of the game leaving Timmington to slot home to make it 2-2.

BRS were now in the ascendancy, and fine midfield work from George "The Wizard" Faville and Mal "The Mini" Mitchell, forced a throw deep in the opposition half. Taken quickly, it landed at Kyle “Dario Sřna” Keasey’s feet and he whipped in a cross that managed to evade everyone and settle into the bottom corner of the net and allow BRS to take the lead, 2-3.

The drama wasn’t over for this half, with Jones then hitting the crossbar in slow motion, with the keeper in no-man’s-land after saving an attempt from the right wing. Churchfields pushed forward soon after, and found themselves handed a penalty thanks to some classic Centre-Forward defending from “Calamity” Jones, clattering their striker in the box; surely he'd be made to rue his earlier missed opportunity?

On theme with this already bonkers game, the Churchfields striker went for maximum power and skied his spot-kick, causing dog-walkers in nearby Arrow Valley Country Park to duck for cover.

Half-time saw BRS with an encouraging 2-3 advantage and they were determined to keep it. However, Churchfields were equally insistent on coming back, and with commendable grit they took more control of the second half. Not long after the break, their striker got free down their left, jinked into the box and despite almost being level with the goal, shot from a ridiculously tight angle that squirmed under the goalkeeper to level at 3-3.

Churchfields continued to push and the cracks in the BRS defence were starting to show, as their extended pressure paid dividends with another goal to make it 4-3 to Churchfields with around 20 minutes remaining.

BRS, to their credit, have recently decided they don’t like rolling over, and continued to create chances. Good work from Kyle “Engine” Keasey in the middle forced the ball to Ryan “Insigne” Burden inside the box, who showed great technique to flick it up with his back to goal and then swivel to slam a volley into the corner and make it 4-4.

In the end it was a fairly bonkers, back-and-forth tie and likely a fair result as neither team deserved a loss. Credit to all the BRS players for doing a full 90 minutes without substitutes and a thank you to Churchfields, we wish them luck for the season.

Shout out to Leigh Cruise; the debutant became BRS' 5th man to stand between the sticks in just 4 games so far this season (which tells you everything about our consitency), getting himself covered in dog-💩 in the process 😂🙈
(And our other goalkeeper Richard,who suffered the seizure last week, said he's doing okay! Thanks to everyone for asking about him).
And shout out to Ian "Invincible" Cooper - BRS yet to lose a game in which Coops has started 👀 (as undeniably far-fetched as that sounds).

BRS played their first match in the Terry Cup yesterday morning, with a home tie against Racing Club RB. In a back and forth game, BRS triumphed 4-3 with a strong finish to an even tie.

Once again featuring a makeshift defence due to limited numbers, BRS began strongly nonetheless. The first minute brought a solid chance for BRS which should have sent warnings to the Racing Club defence with the midfield three of "Brains" (Derel), "Brawn" (Mal) and "BMI of 12" (Jason), linking up well and playing clever balls out wide on numerous occasions.

Within 10 minutes, BRS had the breakthrough, with Luke “Gunner” Hancock getting free on the right hand side of the box, after a sumptuous through ball from Derel "Return of the Mack" Mitchell, and firing a low drive into the corner of the net.

Racing Club came back at BRS and tried their luck down the wings several times but the BRS defence held firm.

The second goal was straight from the Sunday league playbook - a goal kick knocked down in midfield by a "big(ego)-man", and flicked on through the defence; with onrushing Daddy Hancock hitting a first time lob from 25 yards, sailing over the ‘keeper to make it 2-0.

Racing continued to make chances and one break down the left wing created a scramble in the box which resulted in a penalty. Despite goalie Richard Stevenson going the right way and getting a hand to a fairly tame spot-kick, it wriggled into the corner to make it 2-1.

Half-time rolled around and BRS were in good spirits, stemming from a determined performance, and were intent on keeping it up.

Unfortunately, Racing levelled the tie by heading in from a corner shortly after the restart. They may have garnered momentum but regrettably the game had to be paused shortly afterwards due to BRS goalkeeper Richard having a medical emergency which required paramedic attention. Richard has since let us know he is alright, and well done to both sides for pausing the game to allow him to get the treatment he needed.

Play restarted, and within a few minutes Racing had managed to take the lead and make it 2-3. However, not letting their heads drop and make a repeat of the Everton vs Bournemouth game the day before, BRS attacked down the left, almost from the restart, with Oliver “Garibaldi” Jones battling well against the fullback and finding himself through on goal, managing to get his studs onto a bouncing ball that trickled into the opposite corner to level the tie once more. 3-3.

BRS felt the game was theirs for the taking and kept pushing, coming close with a couple of chances before Racing Club countered and almost took the lead but for a life-saving header off the line from Jayden "Him" Kumas.

BRS continued to attack and yet more great battling from the geriatric Jones saw him jink between two defenders as he entered the box and promptly get made into a Sunday League sandwich, leaving the ref no option but to point to the spot once more. Oliver "Factotum" Jones (who else) placed the ball on the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 4-3.

A great result for BRS in their first cup game, and a top effort from all involved. Special mentions to Nathan " Ain’t Playin' " Hancock for deputising in goal in the second half, Jason “Smitten” Timmington for taking his eyes off the sidelines long enough to play some decent football, Denniel "HAVE I TOLD YOU I'M A FIREFIGHTER" George for using his training to help with Rich, a physio who was on hand at the pitch too to help Rich, and the entire backline for holding it together despite mostly not being defenders! Oh, and to the manager's ego for allowing a poll to decide the MotM rather just award it to himself 😅

BRS United Sunday FC are a newly established side playing in the Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination league, in the Championship division (as part of an already established club; BRS United FC).

We are still on the lookout for players. We need committed players, that can spare their Sunday mornings for matches and Wednesday evenings for training.

Home pitch is on Elmdon Road, Selly Park. Wednesday training is from 8-9pm at King Edward VI Five Ways, Bartley Green.

BRS United Sundays 1 - 4 Stoke Prior

BRS had their first home league game of the season this morning, struggling for numbers once more, and put in a valiant effort but could not prevent Stoke Prior coming away with three points in the end.

The first half was fairly even and end-to-end, BRS having a fair few chances but hitting them all straight at a seemingly magnetic keeper. Stoke Prior also had their share of opportunities, using the wings to good effect but the BRS defence stood firm in the first half.

Half-time arrived with the score 0-0 and BRS were hopeful of getting some points on the board for the season. Unfortunately, within a minute of the restart, Stoke Prior broke down the left wing and cut the ball across goal for their striker to finish unmarked for 0-1.

After this, BRS kept chasing but the legs began to tire once more, having to use their only sub when Luke “Daddy” Hancock needed to leave for the birth of his daughter, meaning that for the second game in a row Ian “Ageless” Gallagher played a full 90 minutes at the age of 102 (49) - aside from giving himself a tactical 10 minute breather by getting himself sin-binned on the 70 minute mark.
With a man advantage for a short time, Stoke Prior continued to press and managed to score a further three goals to bring the score to 0-4.

With only ten minutes to play, a BRS foray through the centre led to Ollie “Regurgitator” Jones being clattered in the box and winning a penalty. Of course, The Ego grabbed the ball and took the pen himself, converting to make it 1-4 and get himself off the mark for the season at least.

Fair play to the team for putting the work in for 90 minutes, hopefully BRS will break their duck next week. Thank you to Stoke Prior for the game and good luck for the season.
