CLUB RECORD 🚨

On Day 2 of the Novuna UK Athletics Championships, Mayo Alabi produced a fine set of performances in the 200m. In the heats, Mayo crossed the line in a sensational 20.82, setting a new club record.

He breaks the previous mark of 20.85, set by Julian Thomas in 2005.

Mayo’s performance earned him 6th place overall today, firmly establishing him as one of the top UK juniors over 200m and one to watch heading into the World U20 trials 🌍

Congratulations to Mayo and coach Andy Paul!

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Ron Taylor, a proud Birchfield Harrier🦌

Born in Jamaica, Ron arrived in Birmingham in the early 1950s and began competing for Birchfield in 1956. What followed was years of outstanding service, including a key role in relay teams that brought national titles to the club.

On the track, Ron was exceptional, later becoming a World Champion and record holder in the 100m and 200m as a veteran, a testament to both his longevity and enduring competitive spirit.

But Ron’s impact went far beyond times and medals. Competing in the 1950s and 60s, he was a trailblazer for Black athletes in the UK, helping to pave the way for future generations in the sport.

Ron’s legacy lives on in Birchfield history and in all those he inspired.
