Match Report.. 28/7/26 SCMT v Leicestershire Police
Yesterday we played in honour of Simon Cole QPM vs our friends at Leicestershire Police FC.
The game was played in great spirit and both teams were very respectful before kick off observing a minutes silence.
Tributes were paid by DCC Kerr of Leicestershire Police who was present throughout the game.
The game kicked off on an extremely firm and dusty Tally Ho. Both teams tried to play football but were hampered by conditions.
After hitting the woodwork twice in the opening 20 minutes West Mids were frustrated when Leicester winger George Robbins broke at speed down the left wing. Robbins played a great ball into the middle finding his team mate. In acres of space the Leicestershire forward finished into the bottom corner 0-1 22”
Five minutes later Leicestershire won a corner. West Mids marking was all over the place which allowed 5ft 6” Robbins to head in from the six yard box. 0-2 27”
It was important that West Mids were next to score to get themselves back in the game. 35” and West Mids were awarded a free kick 35 yards out and centre of the goal.
Mo Ibrahim (Ibby) then stepped up to take the free kick, via a slight deflection ended up nestling in the top corner of the Leicestershire net.

West Mids forward Ryan Tanner was then played in. Beating the offside trap Tanner was in on goal. The Leicestershire goal keeper did well to spread him self and smothered Tanners shot from close range.
A much improved last 10 minutes from West Mids took them into Half time.

Second half a couple of changes and West Mids continued to improve. However two defensive mistakes lead to Leicestershire hitting the bar and post.
Shum Iqbal on the right wing was having a great game. After hitting the bar in the first half he beat two men before cutting in and shooting just wide. Unlucky that he couldn’t find enough curl on his shot.
5 minutes later he found himself in space and superbly finished from inside the box. A wonderful Finnish from Shum.

New player Jamie Ash then made his debut and came on at left back. Ash played out his skin for the remainder of the game. Good effort from the young man.
10 minutes to go and again Tanner beat the offside trap. Using his blistering pace he was in on the keeper. Again the Leicestershire keeper rushed out and managed to get a hand on the ball to deny Tanner from poking it past him.
Now into the last minute, again Shum beat his man and delivered a brilliant cross into the box. Tanner racing into the box, beating his marker and the out rushing keeper to the ball. He managed to get a good connection on the ball, volleying towards goal. As everyone present froze and watched, the ball narrowly flew over the goal by centimetres and Leicestershire breathed a sigh of relief.

To Penalties…
After missing their first 3 penalties, things did not look good for West Mids.
However Reiss Jeavons pulled of a great save and a miss from Leicestershire allowed a slight glimmer of hope for West Mids. Despite an emphatic finish from debutant Ash and a cool finish From Captain Alex Brogan, it wasn’t enough to stop Leicestershire scoring the winning penalty.

After the game Player Manager Reiss Jeavons stated “I think second half was a really good performance. Coming back from two down shows great fight and character especially after not playing for 3 months.”
MoM was awarded to Shum Iqbal. Fantastic goal and skill, he caused them real problems in the second half. 👏
