Sadly, I didn’t join the Carlson Gracie Team until a year or so after Senior’s passing, so I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

It was a strange moment visiting Senior’s statue and recreating the famous Carlson handshake you see all over social media.

Whilst there, I noticed pedestrians, some clearly jiu-jitsu practitioners with their battered ears and worn down movements. Deliberately kissing their hands and tapping Senior’s shoulder or head.

I can’t begin to imagine the number of people whose lives were changed for the better through knowing or training with Senior, but It was a privilege to have experienced it.
