Billingshurst Bowling Club

Billingshurst Bowling Club Billingshurst Bowling Club is located just off Station Road, behind Station Road Gardens and next to the Leisure Centre

Here at Billingshurst Bowling Club we always like to welcome new members. Presently Club membership is open to all adults aged 18 years and over. Please click the link below to download and view a copy of the Club Membership Application Form. During April and May each year the Club operates taster sessions to allow newcomers to drop in and have a go. The sessions are free of charge and cater for a

ll levels from absolute beginner upwards. The dress code is casual but flat-soled shoes are essential. All other equipment is available to borrow from the Club, again free of charge. The Club plays friendly matches against other clubs across West Sussex and Surrey during the summer months. Matches are scheduled every few days on both weekdays and weekends. In addition the Club operates a considerable number of internal leagues and competitions. Entrance into the friendly matches and club competitions, although entirely optional, is encouraged and welcomed. We find that even those members in full-time employment are able to get out onto the green several times over the summer to enjoy some friendly competition. Practice night is Friday between 6pm and about 7.30pm depending on the weather and the enthusiasm of those members present. The lure of tea & biscuits later in the session often proves too great! We hold a number of social events during the year and members enjoy these very much, particularly those in the off-season as they provide a chance to catch up with old friends. Out of season there is typically a Christmas Meal at a local establishment and three or four social afternoons where members enjoy various games and other organised activities. During the playing season we run a Fun Day and towards the end of the summer all members are invited to the annual barbecue. The Club is entirely self-funding so we are very lucky and privileged to have among our members a small but enthusiastic group who maintain the grounds and out-buildings on a regular basis. The group meets at the Club as required all year round on most weekdays, with Tuesday morning being one of the more popular sessions. If you are interested in coming along to meet us one Friday then please feel free to just turn up. There is no requirement to book a place or to contact us in advance, but if you have any questions or would like further information before visiting us then we’d love to hear from you!

Midhurst Cup result

First Round

This afternoon we played in the Midhurst Cup first round, with two triples at home and two triples away against Rowledge.

With the scores tied at home with one rink up by 5 and one rink down by 5 in both very close matches, calls to see how the away side were performing became quite crucial.

Away, one side drew, hmm still all square. One rink one by 8 so we progress to the second round and meet the new challengers from Arundel.

Scores:
Home
Robin, Chris, Alan R. won 18-13
Marion, Gary, Alan K. lost 14-19
Away
Lesley, Barry G., Ray N. drew 16-16
Roger, Carole, Ben won 20-12.

Billingshurst 68 - Rowledge 60.

Billingshurst bowlers played their first home game of the season against local rivals Horsham Park on a very warm and humid afternoon. After Club Captain Barry welcomed the teams the game began. The home side had several novice players and some in promoted positions for the first time on the green, which bodes well for the future, as it is important for everyone to have the opportunity of playing for the club.

After five ends it was a very close affair with the away team just 4 shots ahead but by tea after nine ends the lead had increased to 18 shots. Following the break the new bowlers for Billingshurst began to find their form, but the deficit was to great and the more experienced visitors saw out the game to win by 12 shots. Billingshurst 57 Horsham Park 69. Scores: Shelia, Robin, Barry G. lost 7-32, Linda L., Jan, Alan R. lost 8-18, Roger, Carole, Michael won 18-12, Top rink Linda S., Marion, Ray N. won 23-7.

Billingshurst bowlers played another away fixture at the Steyning green, under grey skies and very humid conditions.
After the friendly introductions by Captain Carol, the game began, with one of the visitor's rink quickly behind and the other three evenly matched. After 6 ends there were only two shots difference between the teams, but still one visitor rink had yet to score and were ten shots down. At the break after nine ends the deficit had increased to fourteen, never had a cuppa been more welcomed.

After an iced bun and a brew, things began to pick up for the Billingshurst players, the rink that had not scored, began to find their form, scoring quickly and overtaking the home side, the other 3 rinks were still fairly close. With just one rink to finish the visitors were just 2 shots behind, as the last wood came to rest to score two shots, the match ended in a draw Steyning 60 - Billingshurst 60. Scores: Linda L., Roger, Ray N. won 15-12, Lesley, Marion, Alan R. lost 9-17, Jan, Linda C., Barry G. lost 14-16, Top rink Robin, Carole, Chris won 22-15 (from 0-10 down).
