Billingshurst Bowlers travelled to the home green of Sutton, always a great adventure through the country lanes, up a bridle path and parking next to a cornfield. Then the extra bonus of playing next to a13th century church. Village bowls at it's best and that is before a wood has even been bowled.

Captain Tom welcomed everyone to this rearranged evening fixture and as the first few ends were completed it was the visitors who had a slender lead of six shots. By the halfway mark of nine ends this had been reduced to six. As the last wood was bowled and the light now fading it was the visitors who took the honours by thirteen shots - Sutton 54 Billingshurst 67 Score; Lesley, Roger, Barry lost 13-15, Noel, Marion, Gary lost 15-17, Robin, Alan K., Ben won 17-15, Top rink Tessa, Alan R., Ray N. won 22-7.

A big thank you to our dear friends from Sutton for a most enjoyable evening.

Billingshurst bowlers welcomed Captain Richard and the players from Linfield to their green, after the opening greetings the game began. After 5 ends the home side had an advantage of twenty shots, by the halfway break for tea this had been reduced to sixteen. As with all games the question on everyone's mind was "Will everything change after tea?".

On this occasion the answer was no.

The home side pushed on their advantage and with three rinks finished had a lead of thirty shots. One rink to finish, one wood to bowl the visitors one shot ahead and holding. Home Skip Gary had only one option fire heavy and straight and hope things went his way. The bowl travelled down the green at speed, struck woods here and there - the jack included, as the dust settled he had managed to gain an advantage and was holding two shots - so a four rink win for Billingshurst.

Final score Billingshurst 82 Lindfield 51.

Scores: Linda L., Carole, Barry won 20-11, Sonia, Jan, Ray N. won 16-12, Lesley, Alan K., Gary won 19-18, Top rink Robin, Marion, Ben won 27-10.

Getting ready for take off!

Billingshurst Bowlers together with players from the Clontarf Lawn Bowls Club, Dublin, Ireland have been invited to take part to take part in a three way bowling match as part of the year long celebrations of The New York Lawn Bowling Club reaching the milestone of their Centenary. First founded in 1926, it is the only Lawn Bowls Club in New York.

This is a very great honour for our small club based in Station Road and we are very, very proud to represent our village in such a prestige event.

We have seven bowlers and one supporter going over to play in Central Park, New York, with the main event of the year long celebrations taking place on Saturday 26th September 2026. This will be followed by a Gala dinner where a special premier showing of a documentary of the history of the The New York Lawn Bowling Club will be shown "Low and Slow". The event has been covered by several American Television companies - with the club's President Joe Kelly appearing promoting the sport and their achievement.

As Barry, Roger, Linda, Eddie, Carole, Ray, Bill and our supporter, Norma line up on the green, they are all excited and looking forward to having this great opportunity to play bowls in Central Park, New York.

Marine Gardens result

It was a case of what might have been today as the Billingshurst bowlers travelled to the South coast and the home of Marine Gardens, Worthing.

Avoiding the rain showers and bowling around the Seagulls - the challenge proved interesting at the halfway mark after nine ends the home side had a slight advantage of fifteen shots. Although the visitors started to pull back as the rain fell and the number of ends disappeared just like the spectators a small loss by six shots was the final outcome. Marine Gardens 69 Billingshurst 66 Scores: Tessa, Alan K., Barry lost 10-26, Lesley, Marion, Ben lost 13-17, Roger, Linda C., Alan R. won 18-11, Top rink (mores shots scored) Robin, Carole, Ray N. won 22-15.

Billingshurst Bowlers invited the Billingshurst Probus Club to their green to try their hand at the great game of Lawn Bowls. Playing against each other in fun contest to see how many woods they could get within a yard of the jack.

Everyone enjoyed it so much that after the competition had finished and the refreshments had been served, many of the Probus members went back out onto the green to have another go.

Several budding bowlers there!

Storrington result

Billingshurst bowlers travelled down to play in a local fixture against Storrington. After a warm welcome from Captain Sue and dark clouds overhead the game began. After 5 ends the visitors held a healthy lead of twenty shots, by the halfway point and the sun now shining the difference had increased to thirty shots. However, the home side began to find their form and second half of the game was a much closer affair. Although Billingshurst won the game it was the sport of Lawn Bowls, good company and new friends made the real winners.

First visit of Pippbrook Bowls Club from Dorking to our green today. Played 16 ends as requested by the Captain of the visiting team.

Not a good day for the home side losing by 18 shots. Billingshurst 39 - Pippbrook 57. Scores Robin, Marion, Barry lost 10-25, Lesley, Chris, Alan R. lost 10-20, Top Rink Linda C., Jan, Alan K won 19-12.

Great win today! after a defeat away earlier in the year.
