to Billinghay Stags U9s they’ve worked tirelessly this season, trying to get a win and unfortunately it just didn’t come despite the hard work. Last Sunday that win finally came around for them, so proud of them all. A little special shoutout to Jorgie too (the only girl on her team, she suffered a concussion three weeks back and hasn’t been able to play, but every weekend since she’s been at the side of that pitch supporting her team and looking after them!) Way to go Stags 🦌 we are so proud of you all! 💙💛

Match Report: Billinghay Stags vs Sleaford Town FC – League Fixture

On a crisp December morning, Billinghay Stags welcomed Sleaford Town FC for their final fixture of 2025, with both sides eager to finish the year strongly.

From the opening whistle it was clear that Sleaford had arrived ready for battle. The game quickly developed into a physical, high-intensity contest that tested the Stags across every area of the pitch. Despite the challenge, Billinghay responded superbly, carrying their training-ground discipline into matchday and delivering a performance full of awareness, teamwork and determination for the home supporters.

At the back, James provided a calm and dependable presence on a bitterly cold day. Alert throughout, he stayed focused to deny Sleaford’s attacking threats and offered reassurance to the defence behind him.

Leading from the back as weekend captain, Hugo was a commanding figure in defence. He read the danger well, mopping up pressure and distributing the ball intelligently to the wide areas, while also offering support going forward.

On the right flank, Barney delivered an outstanding all-round display. Solid defensively and sharp in attack, he contributed tirelessly for the team narrowly missing out on adding more.

Ed produced a truly standout performance. Brave in defence and ruthless in attack, his left foot caused constant problems for the opposition. With exceptional work rate at both ends of the pitch, he delivered a clinical display that set the tone for the match.

In midfield, Rory was everywhere. A constant nuisance to the opposition, he positioned himself intelligently to dictate the tempo of play and link the team together, producing a fantastic all-action performance.

Lewis, affectionately known as “the little Keane,” once again showcased his boundless energy and commitment to the team. Tenacious in the tackle and relentless in his work rate, he shut down threats and exemplified what it means to be a true team player.

Up front, Elliot was a constant pest for the Sleaford defence. Playing the entire second half, he worked tirelessly to disrupt attacks and stem the opposition’s momentum, denying multiple chances through sheer determination and effort.

Rounding off the performance was Martin, the Bulgarian Bulldog. Given a more advanced role, he embraced the challenge, creating and setting up multiple opportunities. When switched back into his more familiar position, he continued to dominate, showing clear signs that his training and growing pitch awareness are paying off.

Match Report: Billinghay Stags vs Saxilby – Friendly

Billinghay Stags welcomed Saxilby for a friendly that proved to be a strong, physical and thoroughly competitive encounter.

Led by this week’s captain, Lewis, the Stags burst out of the blocks with real intent. Fresh from yesterday’s training session, the boys were sharp in their scanning and alert to any threats trying to sneak in behind the defence. Lewis, usually known for his versatility, took on a more defensive role today and excelled, continuing to show why he’s becoming such a reliable all-rounder.

There were standout moments all over the pitch, with every player contributing. The individual battles were particularly impressive, showcasing determination, strength and a real desire to win the ball. One memorable duel saw Barney tenaciously hold off an opponent in the box, nullifying a dangerous attack. He embodied the fighting spirit of the team—taking a knock to the face but refusing to let it affect him.

In goal, James continues to grow in confidence each week. His reading of the game improves with every match, and today he was brave and decisive, stepping out to claim the ball and break up Saxilby’s attacks.

Hugo put in a superb defensive display, clearly transferring yesterday’s training principles into the match. His positioning, scanning and decision-making were excellent throughout.

Down the left, Ed was electric—taking on defenders, driving forward and either threading dangerous passes or finding the back of the net himself. His best moment came when he beat multiple players down the wing, reached the by-line and pulled the ball back perfectly for Barney to finish clinically.

Rory built on his strong training performance with an energetic display, showing real determination and coming close to scoring on two occasions.

Elliot listened well to instructions from the sidelines and gave his usual 100%, with his continued improvement clear for all to see.

Match Report – Tom Barber Cup, Round 2
Burgh Town vs Billinghay Stags

Billinghay Stags travelled to Burgh-le-Marsh for their second-round Tom Barber Cup clash, arriving sharp and focused on a brisk morning. Despite a positive warm-up, the Stags made a slower start than usual, with their trademark high press not quite clicking in the early stages.

After being tested by the hosts, the momentum started to shift. The Stags settled into their rhythm, increasing their intensity and showing real composure across the pitch. Defensive work—an area emphasised in training the day before—was outstanding, with players tracking runners, timing tackles, and protecting danger zones superbly.

Going forward, the football was a joy to watch. Crisp passing, quick combinations around the box and intelligent switches of play showed a level of quality beyond their years. Decision-making in the final third is still developing—as expected for six- and seven-year-olds—but their ability to protect the ball and create chances in tight spaces was a big highlight, proving how well they are absorbing their training.

A special mention must go to goalkeeper James, who produced two or three brave saves on the line, commanding his area with conviction. His loud “KEEPERS!” calls are becoming a trademark, and his confidence and decision-making between the sticks continue to impress.

Parents’ Player of the Match – Barney

A performance well beyond his age group. Barney defended with determination, drove forward with purpose and constantly scanned for the right pass. His ball-carrying and decision-making were outstanding, and he capped it off with a season-best display. Fully deserving of the recognition.

Coaches’ Player of the Match – Martin

The “Bulgarian Bulldog” was relentless. Stepping forward fearlessly to support attacks while remaining an absolute rock in defence, Martin covered every blade of grass. Multiple recovery runs, big tackles and a goal to round it off – a brilliant all-round performance.

Special Mentions – Lewis & Rory

Both worked tirelessly, pressing, tackling, linking play and driving the team forward. They were constantly involved and provided assists, doing everything but score. True team players and superb contributors.

Overall Team Performance

A true all-round team performance, and one the players, coaches and parents can all be incredibly proud of.

Match Report: Billinghay Stags vs Skegness Town

Tom Barber Cup – 2nd Round

On a misty, chilly morning, Billinghay Stags welcomed Skegness Town for their first fixture in the second round of the Tom Barber Cup.

Before kick-off, both teams came together to observe a minute’s silence in honour of those who have given so much to allow us the freedoms we enjoy today — a touching and respectful moment from both sides.

From the outset, the Stags impressed with their intensity off the ball and composure in possession. The boys clearly took on board lessons from recent training sessions, putting into practice their focus on scanning both on and off the ball. Off the ball, they identified and shut down threats quickly; in possession, they found space intelligently and played incisive passes into dangerous areas. To see six-year-olds produce such mature football was truly remarkable.

Every player brought something unique and brilliant to the team’s performance:

Rory – Outstanding game awareness and endless energy. His defensive tracking and confident runs with the ball were real highlights.

Elliot – Tenacious and determined, Elliot covered every blade of grass and gave everything for his team.

Martin – Calm under pressure, Martin dribbled smartly out of tight spots and nearly got on the scoresheet himself.

James – A rock in goal. His focus and alertness gave the defence confidence and allowed the Stags to play freely going forward.

Hugo – Relentless and vocal, Hugo showed natural leadership, organising his teammates and making clever passes across the pitch.

Barney – Dynamic on the right wing, Barney defended well and showcased great scanning and awareness. His diagonal runs and crosses were a joy to watch.

Lewis – The heart of a tiger. Full of energy and determination, Lewis tackled, ran, and passed with purpose in what was his standout performance so far. As the newest member of the squad, his development has been brilliant to see.

Skegness Town also produced some strong performances, particularly from their No.11 and goalkeeper. The No.11’s energy and pressing caused the Stags real problems, while the keeper showed bravery and excellent decision-making — both earning recognition as the Stags Coaches’ Players of the Match for the visitors.

Match Report: Spilsby Magpies vs Billinghay Stags – League Fixture

Today our young Stags travelled to face a familiar and well-drilled side — the Spilsby Magpies. Having already met them in both the cup and the league this season, we knew this would be another stern test.

From the first whistle, the Magpies challenged us across every area of the pitch. We had to dig deep, stay disciplined defensively, and look for opportunities to break through their strong back line. It was a fiercely competitive encounter, with several Magpies players impressing through their physicality and skill, pushing our lads to raise their game.

Led superbly by captain Barney, every one of our players showed immense determination. The team worked tirelessly through transitions, turning defensive resilience into attacking intent. Training ground drills were clearly paying off, as we moved the ball intelligently into dangerous areas and created opportunities for our forwards.

The understanding between players was evident, as each movement was supported by smart decision-making and excellent communication. The energy down both wings was relentless, with Barney, Ed, Lewis, Rory, and Elliot combining brilliantly to attack and track back when needed.

At the back, Hugo and Martin were rock solid, reading the game well, breaking up attacks, and setting us on the counter with composed distribution.

And behind them stood James, once again growing in confidence and stature. For the third game running, he commanded his area superbly — alert, vocal, and decisive. His shot-stopping and positioning gave real assurance to the defence, and his performance rightly earned praise from teammates, coaches, and supporters alike.

Match Report: Ruskington Lionesses vs Billinghay Stags – League Fixture

On Sunday, our young Stags made the short trip to Ruskington to take on our friendly neighbours, the ever-improving Lionesses.

The autumn weather was kind, though a cool breeze swept across the pitch. Thankfully, the warm welcome from Ruskington’s players, coach, and supporters quickly set the tone for a morning of great football and sportsmanship.

From the first whistle, it was clear that the Lionesses had come a long way since our pre-season encounters. Their energy, teamwork, and determination were fantastic to see, constantly encouraged by their excellent coach, Craig, from the sidelines.

Realising the challenge ahead, the Stags quickly raised their tempo. Their pressing became sharper, runs down the flanks more threatening, and the quality of crosses into the box was outstanding. At the back, the defensive unit worked tirelessly to protect keeper James, keeping things secure and composed under pressure.

It was brilliant to see every Stags player getting valuable game time, with some lining up alongside teammates they hadn’t played with before. Despite the new combinations, the boys showed superb teamwork, communication, and commitment throughout the match.

During the half-time break, the lads continued to motivate one another—showing great camaraderie both on and off the pitch. A special moment came when the whole team gathered to sing Happy Birthday to Lewis, who celebrated with a goal and a superb all-round performance.

After the final whistle, both teams shared post-match treats and smiles, rounding off a fantastic morning of grassroots football. Huge thanks to the Ruskington Lionesses, their coach Craig, and all their supportive parents for being brilliant hosts once again.

Match Report: Boston Bears U7s vs Billinghay Stags U7s – League Game

The Stags were on the road this weekend, travelling to face familiar opponents in the Boston Bears for their third league game of the season. Having met during pre-season friendlies, both sides knew what to expect — a strong, determined contest between two talented young teams.

Before we dive into the action, a huge thank you goes to our hosts, the Boston Bears, for their warm hospitality and excellent organisation. The atmosphere was friendly and positive throughout, with both sets of parents, coaches, and players showing great respect and sportsmanship — exactly what grassroots football is all about.

From the first whistle, the Stags showed great intent. Under the leadership of captain Hugo, they pressed high and moved the ball around with confidence. He was recognised by the Bears coach as their POTM.

Their passing and switches of play — straight off the training ground — were a joy to watch. Despite their attacking efforts, the Bears’ goalkeeper was in fine form, pulling off several crucial saves to keep the score tight.

Defensively, the Stags were just as impressive. Every player worked hard to win back possession and transition quickly into attack. The physicality and commitment on display from both teams were outstanding, earning applause from parents and coaches alike on the sidelines.

A special mention goes to James, who took up goalkeeping duties for this match. His confidence and composure between the posts provided the foundation for the team’s play and kept the Stags in control defensively.

Up front, Rory led by example, pressing the Bears’ defenders and finding space in key areas — his persistence paying off with a well-taken goal. Elliott was tireless throughout, tracking back, making crucial tackles, and driving the ball forward to spark attacks.

His hard work earned him the well-deserved Parents’ Player of the Match award.

Ed put in a standout performance, dominating defensively and orchestrating play with excellent passing and transitions. His all-round display saw him contribute both assists and goals — a superb effort, rounded off with a superb free kick that the keeper had no chance in saving.

Barney was also on top form, linking play brilliantly and finding the net multiple times.

Every one of the Stags — Barney, Rory, Hugo, Elliott, Ed, and James — can be immensely proud of their performance today. It was a true team effort full of skill, spirit, and determination.
