Today we had the county cup against The Promenade FC.
With them being from the Sunderland league we didnāt know what to expect. A great start as the manager wasnāt prepared to get up out of bed as he was out on the beers last night (he had 4 beers) and a few key players missing. We still had a great side out full of quality players!
Nothing much to say about the game, other than the fact that both keepers had great games and pulled some mental saves to keep both sides in the game. Momentum switched a lot between both teams but no one could score in the 90 minutes. The ref even said āif someone scores in this game Iāll be very shockedāš¤£š¤£. In all honestly both defences had great games admittedly we had a abit more defending to do but wow did we handle it wellš
90 mins and not a single goal was scored. Pens it is!! We were quite confident until one of there lads tells us there keepers saved around 7 of his last 10 pens š¤£ ofcourse he saves the first one and itās squeaky bum timeā¦. But we did it š„³billingham lions win 5-4 and onto the next round of the county cup š UTLš¦
Couldnāt be any prouder of the starting 11 and the 3 subs today absolutely grafted from minute one for the badge. Was a hard game but wow we didnāt stop and itās a great sign of good things to comešŖ
Thanks to the lads who came back to the lion for a pint and bite to eat, good craic throughout the game and good set of lads. All the best for the season.
MOTM - Max Finmore, after coming down last week and doing a stint outfield we found out he likes to wear the gloves, threw him in goal today and the manās a machine some excellent saves on his goalkeeping debut for us.
