*** EASTER APPEAL FOR CHILDREN’S SPORTS CLOTHING ***
The Council has issued a fresh appeal for the public to donate their unused sportswear to help get more children participating in sport ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays.
In the two years since its inception, the ‘Kit out the Borough’ scheme has helped give children from disadvantaged families the opportunity to take part in sport when they might have previously missed out due to not having the appropriate clothing.
And the Council is again asking for donations to help get more youngsters active across the Borough with spring in the air and the two-week Easter break approaching at the end of March.
The scheme remains on the look-out for boys and girls sports clothing, along with small adult clothing.
Splash in Stockton, Billingham Forum, IB Leisure, Thornaby Pavilion and Thornaby Pool are all home to the Kit out the Borough bins where the public can bring their unwanted clothing to donate.
Councillor Steve Nelson, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure, and Culture, said: “I’ve previously highlighted the physical and mental benefits regular exercise can have for children and young adults.
“The Kit out the Borough scheme is helping more youngsters participate in sport and we want that to continue.
“With hopefully some better weather on the way and a two-week Easter holiday coming up, now is the ideal time to ask the people of the Borough to bring in their unwanted sportswear, which is in a good, usable and clean condition.”
