📣 A message from the Mayor 📣
It is a great honour and privilege to serve as Mayor of Bideford.
For centuries, the river has also been at the heart of our town's story. Once one of the busiest ports in the United Kingdom, Bideford thrived through shipbuilding and trade with the Americas, playing a significant role during the Elizabethan era.
Today, Bideford Regatta proudly celebrates this enduring bond between the town and its river. It is one of our most cherished annual events, bringing together crews, supporters, and visitors from across the region and beyond. The regatta not only showcases the excitement and skill of rowing but also highlights the strong community spirit that makes Bideford such a special place.
Our two local rowing clubs, the Reds and the Blues, continue to provide invaluable opportunities for young people to get involved in sport, develop confidence, and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. For many, rowing becomes a lifelong passion that promotes health, friendship, and personal achievement.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of the many volunteers who give their time so generously. From coaching and club management to fundraising, administration, and event organisation, these individuals are the unsung heroes behind the success of the regatta. Their commitment ensures that this wonderful tradition continues to thrive year after year.
On behalf of the town, I extend my sincere thanks to our volunteers, rowers, supporters, sponsors, and the wider community for their continued enthusiasm and support.
I wish all crews the very best of luck in their races and hope everyone enjoys a fantastic day by the river. Enjoy the competition, the attractions along the quay, and the unique atmosphere of this wonderful event—and above all, stay safe.
