🏅 Double Gold for Bideford AAC’s John Shapland! 🏅

A fantastic performance from John Shapland at the South West Veterans Track & Field Championships in Yate on Sunday.

John won gold in the 1500m in 6:18, despite taking a fall during the race, before adding a second gold in the 5000m with a time of 22:18 on a very windy track.

Congratulations, John, on another excellent day’s racing! 👏

Wimbleball Regatta

It was touch and go to if our Rowers were going to get a race, the wind coming across the lake turned a 1000m race into 500m.

An eventful day turned into 5 wins, 2nd and 3rd places, capsizing and great help from our Juniors with rigging and unrigging boats.

Our wins came from
Barney Sen C 1x
Colin Masters 1x
Hannah & Sophie 2x
Ladies Sen C +( Hannah, Becca, Kirsty,Zoe & Sophie)
Open Novice 4+ ( Tom, Theo, Sophie, Flyn & Hannah)

Our Juniors Izzy,Izzy, Michael and Harry took 2nd in OJ/16 4X+ with Ross ( Reds coxwaining)
This was the 2nd race of the day and with the conditions they did brilliantly.

We had 2nd & 3rd places from our Senior Men in 4s and 2-.
Jens, Rupert,Bri, Barney and Tom.

Our Star of the day was definitely our young
J/14 sculler Harry Guy. His race was one of the last events and he was determined to row it despite the conditions. He capsized at the start but got back in, he capsized again during the race. Most scullers would have come back in but not Harry, he carried on and finished the race and received a huge cheer from Senior rowers from other Clubs.👏👏

Thanks to Neil for driving the boats 😄

Captain Chat

Yet again another busy week.

Tuesday night Sharon Cloak trusted me with taking our Juniors to Barnstaple for the Relays.

They were a credit to our Club as always along with our Seniors who took part. I’d forgotten how enjoyable these relays are, Seniors and Juniors all taking part in the same race.

Today was our home Regatta. Very proud again of our younger rowers with many of them competing for the first time. Today we took 7 wins. Wimbleball next week.

The main thing this week is acknowledging our parents. Your help and support at events mean everything. Transport, making cakes, safety boat and marshalling. Without you we couldn’t manage our events.

Thank you

Tracey
