🚴‍♂️ Thursday Night Gravel Ride Recap 🚴‍♀️

In all the excitement from Sunday, we completely missed the Thursday night gravel summary… so unapologetically, here it is! 😅

There’s just something special about warm summer evenings on gravel. Twelve riders rolled out into the Oxfordshire countryside, soaking up golden-hour views, endless tracks and trails, and plenty of four-legged spectators along the way 🐑🐄🐇.

From wide-open farm roads to winding bridleways, we cruised through 25 miles of classic gravel goodness. There were a few bridge crossings, the obligatory ford splash (because what’s a gravel ride without getting at least slightly wet?), and enough stunning scenery to make us forget our legs were working.

As the sun dipped lower and the shadows stretched longer than our ride leader’s route briefing, we wrapped things up in the best possible way — with a well-earned beer at The Trigger Pond 🍻

A huge thanks to everyone who joined us for another cracking evening on the trails.

Fancy coming along next time? Sign up for our next Gravel Evening Ride on Thursday 25th June and experience the magic of Oxfordshire gravel for yourself. 🚲✨

Wow, what a day! 🚴‍♀️

We only went and spent the morning riding with none other than Lizzie Deignan, showing her the finest leafy lanes Oxfordshire has to offer.

Thanks to the expert planning from Trek Bicester, invited riders enjoyed a fantastic spin with the former World Champion, chatting about all things cycling while rolling through some stunning countryside.

No pressure on Lizzie, but we think she was struggling to keep up with some of the local legends... 😉

Back at the Trek store, we were treated to a lunch that can only be described as "M&S-level luxury", followed by a brilliant Q&A session with Lizzie herself, sharing stories, insights and plenty of laughs.

There were goody bags galore, signed photos, and lots of opportunities for a chat. Most importantly, Lizzie was gently reminded just how honoured she should feel to have been invited on a Trek Bicester Social Ride. After all, world titles are one thing, but a Trek Bicester social ride?

That's the real pinnacle of cycling. 😆

A huge thank you to Lizzie and everyone who helped make it such a memorable day!

☀️🇮🇹 A bit later than usual, but mamma mia… what a scorcher!

Saturdays, Giro d’Italia-themed ride served up sunshine, sweat and enough Lycra to blind passing traffic. Riders rolled out bright and early from the Trek store for a hot hundred miler through the glorious Oxfordshire countryside — with temperatures somewhere between “pleasantly warm” and “who turned the sun up to max?” 😅🚴‍♂️

Led by the dynamic duo Ros and Sam Messenger, the group carved through quiet leafy lanes, climbed and coasted across the rolling Cotswold hills, and somehow still had enough energy left to smile for photos at café stops. Miraculous scenes.

Thankfully there were plenty of water stops to keep everyone upright, plus top-tier support from Sam Smith and Herbs — unofficially promoted to hydration heroes and morale managers for the day 👏💧
A massive well done to everyone who took on the challenge. 100 miles, blazing sunshine, great company, and a proper Giro atmosphere… bellissimo! 🇮🇹🍕☕🚴

And for those who just cannot get enough we are riding out from the Trek store tomorrow in search of shade and gravel, expect dust, laughs and the occasional cow!!! Approx 25miles leaving at 1800 with a pub stop near the finish…… not sure how this ride will end so join us for a mystery gravel bonanza!!

The Trek team have been causing trouble again… this time swapping spanners for speed! 🔧➡️🚵

Mechanic Liam decided fixing bikes wasn’t exciting enough, so he headed downhill for Round 3 of the Root 1 Race Series and only went and took the WIN! 🥇 In an absolutely nail-biting finish.

Liam claimed first place by just 0.321 seconds — which is basically the time it takes to panic-brake into a corner. 😅

Huge congratulations also go to Jorgie, one of our junior social riders, who stormed to victory at Round 3 of the Lawford Youth Series in Lichfield! 💪🔥

Facing a seriously tough field — with some determined riders from Wolverhampton Wheelers taking second and third — Jorgie kept her cool, held the pace, and brought home the top spot in style. 🚴‍♀️🏆

Next up this weekend: the run club is trading wheels for trainers and questionable life choices. Join Jenny on Saturday for a very civilised 6km easy run — because apparently sweating before 10am is now a hobby.

📍 Meet at the store
⏰ 09:20 start

Then on Sunday, we’re heading to the glorious New Forest for what can only be described as a gravel-fuelled extravaganza. Expect 50km of scenic riding, questionable banter, and at least one person dramatically claiming they’re “bonking” after 12km.

🍇 Hosted by the Trek staff
📍 Meet at 09:00
🚴 50km of pure enjoyment (and probably mud)

This one’s going to be an absolute cracker.

There are long rides. There are hard rides. And then there’s whatever unhinged medieval punishment device this was.
107 miles.
3,725 metres of climbing.
Nearly 11 hours in the saddle.

The Fred Whitton

Somewhere between the first soul-destroying gradient and the final existential crisis on two wheels, one of our Trek Social riders discovered that entering “the toughest cycling sportive in the UK” on a whim is, in fact, a terrible way to make life choices.

“I had absolutely no intention of actually doing it,” they admitted afterwards — the sort of sentence usually heard before someone climbs Everest in flip-flops. But fate, the ballot gods, or pure bad luck had other ideas. One email later and suddenly it was game on.
And what a game it was.

The climbs? Less “road cycling” and more “trying to ride a bike directly up the side of a house.” At several points the gradient appeared to violate basic physics, common sense, and probably a few human rights laws.

Walking wasn’t a sign of weakness — it was a sign of survival instinct. Frankly, anyone who completed the whole thing without unclipping deserves immediate testing for robotic enhancements.

Then came the descents: equal parts thrilling and absolutely horrifying. Riders faced the classic mountain dilemma — burn through brake pads like a Formula 1 pit stop, or release all control and make peace with whatever happens next. Somewhere in the distance you could almost hear carbon rims screaming for mercy.

Yet somehow, after 107 brutal miles and enough elevation gain to make your legs file a formal complaint, they made it back. Exhausted, broken, slightly traumatised… but grinning.

“Never ever doing that again,” they said.
Which in cycling terms probably means we’ll see them on the start line next year.

Well done Rob we are all looking forwards to hearing about it on the next social ride!!

Trek Bicycle Bicester rolled into Phoenix Bike Park for a day of flowing trails, enormous jumps, suspiciously average coffee, and one heroic multi pack bag of that barely survived.

Liam pulled together an absolute belter of a day — the kind where everyone leaves covered in dust, grinning like kids, and suddenly convinced they “could definitely clear that next jump.” Some did. Some very much didn’t.

Special mention has to go to Sam Smith, who somehow turned up less than 24 hours after spending FIVE hours in A&E with suspected broken ribs following a crash the day before.

Most people would’ve stayed home wrapped in bubble wrap, but not Sam. Armed with coffee, sunglasses, and pure Trek ambassador energy, she took on the vital role of Lead Clapper and Official Whooper-in-Chief, cheering riders on like Phoenix Bike Park’s own hype squad. Frankly, the jumps were big, but Sam’s commitment was bigger.

As for the riding — massive sends, questionable landings, and enough airtime to make Ryanair nervous. Phoenix delivered the goods all day long.

If you came along, you already know how good it was. If you didn’t… well, your social media scrolling punishment starts now. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Trek Bicycle Bicester ride-out — and bring your own crisps

Bank Holiday Monday decided to show off a bit—blue skies, fields glowing like someone spilled a giant tin of yellow paint, and just enough mud to keep things “interesting.” Basically, spring flirting outrageously with summer.

So naturally, we rolled out for a “nice little gravel ride”… which quickly turned into a full sensory experience: dodging water (or not), crunching across freshly planted fields, and weaving through endless rapeseed that looked like it belonged in a postcard rather than stuck to our socks.

The Oxfordshire countryside did its part too—rolling views for days, the kind that make you forget your legs are working overtime… until the next incline politely reminds you.

And leading the charge was Ros, gliding along like a gravel-riding guru while the rest of us followed in a neat line—somewhere between disciplined cyclists and a slightly chaotic conga line on wheels.

All in all, a cracking day out: a bit muddy, a lot scenic, and just the right amount of “why did I agree to this?” mixed with “when are we doing it again?” 🚴‍♂️

Saturday’s social ride was an absolute triumph—less “casual spin,” more “Tour de Banter.” Under the expert (and possibly caffeine-fuelled) guidance of Sam Smith and Sam Messenger, the group glided over gloriously fresh tarmac like a peloton of pastry-seeking missiles, eventually rolling into Oakley for coffee in exceptionally high spirits (and only mildly questionable leg condition).

Adding to the excitement, Lex made a rare and majestic appearance—like a cycling unicorn, but with better kit—perfectly timed for a cracking spring bank holiday outing.

And just when you thought the fun was over… think again. Bank Holiday Monday is gearing up for round two, this time led by the Trek gravel crew.

Wheels hit the road from Croughton Village Hall at 0800hrs offering a far superior alternative to wandering aimlessly around a garden centre or pretending you understand DIY in a superstore.

Fresh air, good company, and zero flat-pack furniture—what more could you want?
