Long ago, when Master Funakoshi introduced karate to Japan, his friend Hoan Kosugi designed a symbol that would carry the spirit of Shotokan forever the tiger in the circle.
The tiger is coiled, ready to spring at any moment, yet its face is calm. It shows that a true martial artist is always prepared, but never reckless. Its claws appear, but they do not slash wildly they remind us that strength must be guided by discipline. The circle around it holds the tiger in balance, teaching that even the fiercest power belongs within harmony and respect.
This is Shotokan. Not just fighting, but mastering the self.
