Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club Bicester Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club Bicester - a member of JKA England Training in Japanese Shotokan Karate In fact, you are encouraged to train!

Club Instructor: Sensei Graham Johnson
Part of Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club - Based near Aylesbury
We are affiliated to Japan Karate Association England with Ohta Sensei 8th Dan JKA being our Chief Instructor. "with the strength of one's body" - being made up of the two Japanese characters Tai (body) and Ryoku (power). We were established on 18th September 1999 at the Bierton dojo which is our Ho

nbu (Headquarters) and since then we started another 8 other regular dojo's and two school dojo's. Our dojo's are situated all over the County of Buckinghamshire and we also spill over the border into Oxfordshire with our Bicester dojo. As all of the clubs are considered as one club, it doesn't matter which dojo you go to initially, you are permitted to train at any of the regular dojo's. We offer regular training five days a week from Tuesdays to Saturdays. Sundays are not redundant either and there are various training opportunities where courses, competitions, seminars and workshops are scheduled in connection with the club or JKA England. We hold our club Kyu gradings on a Saturday. Information regarding our venues; events; training days and times can easily be found on our website. At Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club, we teach and practice JKA Shotokan karate, the most original style of karate that's taught professionally and academically. Shotokan karate is known for its linear movements and long, deep stances. Its emphasis is on mastering specific techniques. The aim of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) which has headquarters in Japan, has members spanning over 100 countries is the promotion of karate and its benefits and values throughout the world. JKA England is a nationwide organisation for the development, teaching and promotion of authentic JKA karate in England whose Chief Instructor is Yoshinobu OHTA 8th DAN JKA. Ohta Sensei is a graduate of Takushoku University and has also attended the famous Instructors Classes at JKA Headquarters in Japan. From 1982-2003 Ohta Sensei was the assistant to Keinosuke Enoeda, 9th Dan.

Long ago, when Master Funakoshi introduced karate to Japan, his friend Hoan Kosugi designed a symbol that would carry the spirit of Shotokan forever the tiger in the circle.
The tiger is coiled, ready to spring at any moment, yet its face is calm. It shows that a true martial artist is always prepared, but never reckless. Its claws appear, but they do not slash wildly they remind us that strength must be guided by discipline. The circle around it holds the tiger in balance, teaching that even the fiercest power belongs within harmony and respect.
This is Shotokan. Not just fighting, but mastering the self.

"THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPETITION IN CHILDREN'S EDUCATION"

Competitions are not only about winning or losing, they are about learning how to live.

When a child enters a ring, tatami, Dojo - they are not fighting only with somebody. It's confrontation with themselves.

The child is afraid, anxious, brave, frustrated...
And all in a safe environment, surrounded by those who encourage it.

Every championship is a real opportunity to mature.

There the child learns to control their emotions, to concentrate under pressure, to rise after a fall and to understand that effort is not a guarantee of victory but a way to progress.

This is a preparation for maturity - where challenges are everyday, the "opponents" are internal, and the greatest result is not to give up.

Healthy racing teaches empathy, discipline and self-awareness.
The one who competes today is strengthening themself for the world of tomorrow.

Because awards will one day rust.
But what they went through...... will stay in the mind forever.
