I genuinely couldn’t believe the size of this smoothhound… 😳🎣

A moment I’ll remember for a long time.

I know exactly what caused this mess… 🤦‍♂️🎣

Let’s see if anyone else can work it out before I give the answer away 😅

Rate my bait! 🎣😅

I’ve only been sea fishing for a few months, so I’m still learning every session.

How does this bait presentation look? Anything you’d change or improve?

I’d genuinely appreciate any tips or advice from the more experienced anglers on here. Always trying to learn. 👊

There’s something special about watching a smoothhound power back into the surf 🎣

Moments like this are what keep me coming back to the beach.

Not the species I was targeting… but after a few tough sessions I was just glad not to blank 😅🎣

This conger eel might not have been the plan, but seeing it swim away was still a great moment.

What’s the most unexpected fish you’ve caught when targeting something else?

After months of trying, plenty of blanks, and a lot of perseverance, I finally landed my first ever Thornback Ray on Saturday night! 🎣

Earlier in the day I stopped by Anglers Den for some bait, tackle and advice before heading out for a night session on a local Bexhill beach. I was also lucky enough to be fishing alongside local match angler Peter, who shared plenty of tips and knowledge throughout the session.

The ray measured 44cm and took a squid and lugworm cocktail fished on a pulley pennel rig during the ebb tide.

The session didn’t stop there either, producing two conger eels, including one measuring 72cm, and I also lost what felt like a much bigger fish during the night!

For me though, the ray was the moment that made the whole session worthwhile. It’s a species I’ve wanted to catch for a long time, so finally seeing one on the beach was a brilliant feeling.

The video of the session will be out soon on YouTube

What was the first sea fish species that really meant something to you when you caught it?

Determined not to blank here again and with the advice of my local angling shop I was back at the WoodYard 🎣
