The changes to the Mountaineering and Climbing instructor qualification.

As the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Pathway Review draws to a conclusion, the working group have agreed some amendments to the registration and assessment prerequisites.

It is always a pleasure and a privilege to pass someone for their Mountain Leader qualification. Massive congratulations to . We did question our life’s choices at times last Wednesday. Side ways rain and gale force winds made for a challenging performing environment, but Jodie was keen and very well prepared to demonstrate her skills set and high degree of competence at leading people through complex terrain. This re-assessment was the final stage in gaining the qualification. We had loads of great discussions on the hill, everything from assessment nerves, female representation in the outdoors, through to key current affairs-are your feet dry (no), Are your pants still dry (no) and this was all before lunch time. Top effort Jodie, what a day! Look forward to seeing you out using your Mountain Leader to help others stay safe and enjoy the mountains as much as you do.

Mountain Leaders! Huge congratulations to three new Mountains Leaders who successfully completed their assessments this week. Some challenging weather conditions, from too hot, too windy, too many thunderstorms and ending up being just right for the walk out.

Fab day delivering a MCI mountaineering refresher. Focusing on decision making, safety and efficiency. It was a pretty soggy day on Tryfan but better than forecasted, we were out of the wind and had a great day getting stuck into the whys and whys not of technique selection, context is everything. Some fine discussions around the complexity of the dynamic risk assessments, multi tasking, performance under pressure (real and perceived), along with acquiring and honing your mountaineering kung fu.
