Goswick Golf Club's Junior Vice Captain, Erin Reid, spent the past two days at an LPGA Girls Leadership Academy held at The Belfry. One of the highlights was a chance to attend a workshop led by England's Charley Hull, fresh off her runner-up finish in the Women's' US Open at Riviera Country Club in California. Great opportunity for Erin that will no doubt benefit Goswick as the club continues to move its Junior Section forward.

Congratulations to Spencer McCulloch who aced the 15th hole at Goswick Golf Club during the second round of the Club Championship on Sunday. That stroke a brilliance helped Spencer post a 74 en route to a 4th place finish in Category 2.

Thanks also to the Ad Gefrin distillery in Wooler for donating a bottle of their whisky every time a Goswick member records a hole-in-one during a members' competition.

Paul Holloway bested the field and a testing wind to capture the Club Championship at Goswick Golf Club over the weekend, 43 years after he first claimed the title at the age of 17 in 1983. Holloway grabbed the first-round lead on Saturday with a 6-over-par 78 (including a back nine 36) amid unrelenting gale force winds in which only five players broke 80. He followed that up on Sunday with a steady 75 to hold off David Greenshields who posted 79-77-156.

Graeme Stubbs captured Category 2 with an excellent 82 in Saturday's wind followed by a strong 79 on Sunday. Morris McGongile took 2nd place with 84-84-168. Richard Warner prevailed in Category 3, pipping William O'Hara in a sudden death playoff after both players finished 36 holes with gross 177s.

In the Ladies Section, Ami Ewan followed up an opening 90 with a second-round 82 to best Lynn Bruce who posted 99-81-180 for the gross title. Jane Johnson took the net title with scores of 80-75-155.

Congrats to all who braved the tough conditions and competed. And bravo to the Goswick greenkeeping staff for preparing the links to such a high standard. A great weekend for Goswick!

Goswick Golf Club's Juniors Section is off and running this season with Monday Night Coaching, ongoing development of players keen to advance, and a full slate of competitions and matches.
