Hi, my name is Owen Shiels and I’m a BACP-registered psychotherapeutic counsellor offering one-to-one therapy for adults. I work integratively, which means I draw on different therapeutic ideas depending on what is most useful for the person I’m working with, with Transactional Analysis being an important influence on how I understand people and the patterns we can become caught in.

I work with adults experiencing things such as anxiety, overthinking, low mood, self-doubt, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties and people-pleasing.

We're delighted to welcome Catherine Hinds as the newest member of the Bab'yama family!

Catherine is an analyst, psychotherapist and supervisor trained in the methods developed by C G Jung. She has over 25 years experience as an analyst in both private practice and the NHS, and is a member of the British Jungian Analytic Association (BJAA), British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the International Association of Jungian Analysts (IAAP).

For those of you wondering, the Jungian approach emphasises discovering who we are beneath the expectations, adaptions and identities we have developed in order to belong and finding the freedom to become more fully ourselves.​

As adults, we don't often allow ourselves to be beginners. But thinking about it, there is so much freedom in NOT being able to do something! It allows you to play, to experiment, to just enjoy trying for the sake of it with no necessary end-goal.

And if there's tea and biccies in the mix, we're in! 😂😍

Can't ever seem to get your Crow Pose airborne? Think you're unusual? Broken?

But this crow can't fly either!

"But," you might be crying, "this isn't a crow-crow. Clearly, it's a bébé-crow!"*

Well, yes. This l'il earth-tethered scrap of corvus is indeed a bébé.

So you see how much you have in common?Both beginners. Both unable to fly.

The difference, however, is that our corvling here thinks nothing of this situation. It doesn't peck its chest in frustration or see its intimate relationship with gravity as a personal failing.

It'll just keep trying until one day, in a flutter of feathers, it'll land next to you and work out how to steal your earrings.

Next Saturday afternoon (9th), I'm running a verr-rrreee relaxed and chill workshop ~ As the Crow Flies ~ for those who would like to enjoy their status as a bébé Crow but who would also like to learn all the tips and techniques that might, one day, get their Crow Pose fledging. (Possibly with the longterm goal of nicking stuff too.)

The studio has been getting busy this year. While it's perfectly formed, it is small, so don't forget to book your favourite classes! 🥰

I know we're all out of sync with our regular lives following the Easter holidays, which is why I'm sending out this gentle reminder for you to book your regular classes which start up again this Monday, 12th. 🥰

Classes have been busy this year and managing the studio space has to be a priority. Booking not only enables me to manage the space to ensure we can fit in(!), but also to asssess which classes are more viable to run than others. I'd hate to cancel a class simply because we all forgot to book!

I appreciate your understanding and I'll see you on your mats, Beautiful Mat People! 🙏T x

Time to get vegetably (is that even a word?) creative! 😋

We have saved over 300kg of surplus food in the past 24 hours and we need your help to use it up!

A LOT of carrots, potatoes, parsnips in particular so get the soup pans out and pop down to Wonderful West St and see us there to fill a box or bag.

Ooh, these will add a fab splash of colour to the studio. 🥰

Am IN LOVE with these throws for the studio!😍

Imported from India and made from recycled saris, I've been really looking forward to unfolding these beauties for Savasana - aka "The Nice Lie Down".

Howevs, howevs ...

I think India must suffer with a most vexatious infestation of moths, for even on unwrapping, even as these throws sang gloriously with the hot colour of their homeland, it became apparent they also harmonised with the hum of naphthalene.

Mothballs, innit.

If we used these as were, we'd all be stinking like little old ladies - probably racist - in moldering fox furs.

So what to do, Dear Reader?

White vinegar is what, and air. Lots and lots of fresh Spring air.

And now we may all doze away the end of class under a light, pretty blanket of clear, fragrant sky.
