This is what our A team legend, Wendy, had to say about her experience at the recent US Open Pickleball Championships.
In April 2026, I was lucky enough to take part in the 10th US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida — and what an unbelievable experience it was!
It was my first time playing outdoors in true sunshine and wind conditions, which was certainly a learning curve, but I loved every minute of it. I may not have returned home with any medals, but I came back with incredible memories, new experiences, and a huge appreciation for how the Americans put on a sporting event. They really know how to create an atmosphere!
The venue itself was astonishing. Imagine 60 immaculate outdoor courts, all based in what is essentially their version of a public council park — yet maintained to an unbelievably high standard. Outside of tournament time, the courts are open to the public, which says a lot about how big pickleball has become in the USA.
One of the highlights was watching the women’s world No. 1, Anna Leigh Waters, play doubles alongside her mum. Seeing a player of that calibre up close, not just on the main show court but also on the outside courts, was something special. At just 19 years old, her level is extraordinary, with a DUPR rating of 6.938 in doubles and 6.453 in singles. Watching that standard of pickleball right in front of you was a real privilege and hugely inspiring.
Another fun moment was meeting Tanner, better known online as the “60 Second Guy” — definitely worth following on Instagram if you haven’t already. Of course, I had to grab a selfie!
The whole trip was fantastic from start to finish. Alongside competing in four categories, I hired a car and explored the Naples area, enjoyed the beautiful beaches, went on a dolphin-watching boat trip, and may have treated myself to a bit of shopping at the local outlets too! .
The US Open operates on a lottery entry system, so there’s never a guarantee of getting in, but if you ever get the opportunity, I would thoroughly recommend it. It’s more than just a tournament — it’s a celebration of pickleball and an experience I’ll never forget.
Awesome place, awesome people, awesome time!
