Enormous thanks to everyone who supported our 2026 Bembridge Harbour Family Fun Weekend!! From building paper boats, to constructing majestic castles and creating spectacular sculptures on the beach, taking part in traditional egg and spoon, sack, running, 3-legged and wheelbarrow races under Mediterranean blue skies, then everyone joining in with a wet and noisy Family Bucket Relay!
The Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race at BHYC (glue and paint had dried by then!) brought the challenge of wind shifts, with gusts blowing many of the fleet off the course, requiring an extension to the Finish Line - hard work for the recovery rowing boats too as some competitors sped off in the direction of the Causeway!
Saturday evening’s Harbour Party saw prizes awarded for the afternoon’s Best Decorated Boat Competition, as well as prizes for Fancy Dress - the FFW Event Theme being "What's Your Favourite Read?!) in celebration of the National Year of Reading 2026.
Sunday morning’s Crabbing Competition began with the Harbour Team’s “Wake Up Walk” on the pontoon, led by a Hungry Staff Caterpillar. 411 crabs were caught, counted, and carefully returned home - prizes won for the largest number caught in each age group, the largest crab and the youngest crab catcher.
Enormous thanks to Brading Haven Yacht Club, Bembridge Sailing Club, the RNLI Coastal Safety Team, and to the whole Harbour Team who put heart and soul into making the weekend a success! In the process over £1,500 was raised for nominated Island charity, the Sophie Rolf Trust - KissyPuppy - thank you all so much! 🙏🙏😎xx
