Our bells make a lovely sound,
Which is heard in the hills all around.
For remembrance occasions,
And life celebrations,
And to mark the events of our town.
Back in 1925,
Belper’s bells were replaced and revived.
Eight crafted bronze domes,
With beautiful tones,
Were stood on St Peter’s church drive.
The bells were funded by gifts,
Made by local philanthropists.
Some of their names,
On the bells are engraved,
George Herbert Strutt paid for the largest.
Ringing’s an unusual hobby for sure,
You can be learning for decades or more!
There’s so much to gain,
It stretches your brain,
Sometimes your feet come up off the floor!
Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings,
Are when we’re practising and we’re performing.
We sound the bells loud,
Hopefully Strutt would be proud,
Scan the QR code to hear a recording!
Our poem nears its last line,
You’re still here, perhaps it’s a sign,
That your interest is caught,
So maybe we ought,
To see you in the tower sometime 😊.
