John Litchfield 1941 - 2026
Everyone at Belper was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Litchfield - a true club stalwart and gentleman.
John was involved in hockey throughout his life and became an integral part of both Belper Hockey Club and Midlands Hockey following his return from Manchester University in 1962. He served as First Team Captain from 1968 to 1971 and, over the decades, held almost every position imaginable within Midlands Hockey, Belper Meadows Sports Club and Belper Hockey Club.
In more recent years, John was the driving force behind many of the umpiring meetings and courses held at Belper. He was passionate about encouraging others - particularly younger members - to become involved in umpiring, offering guidance, support and encouragement every step of the way. His legacy lives on through the many young umpires he inspired and mentored, for which we are immensely grateful.
John was one of the Club’s most loyal, kind, and generous supporters. His dedication, friendship, and unwavering commitment enriched our club beyond measure throughout his long association with Belper. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and by the wider hockey community.
The many tributes received by his family are a testament to the impact John had on Belper Hockey Club, and to the special place that Belper held in John's heart. His contribution to our club and our sport will not be forgotten.
We send our condolences to Eileen, Jo, Andrew and John's wider family.
