In ancient Greek stories, Atlas was punished by being forced to hold the weight of the sky on his shoulders.

Most people read that as a metaphor for carrying emotional burdens. I read it as a lesson in physical mechanics. When we carry heavy, tangible stress in our daily lives, our physical vessel takes the load. Our posture collapses, our joints take the strain, and we lose our grounding.

You can't always control the weight of the world, but you can absolutely control the structural integrity of the vessel carrying it.
That is the entire focus of Permission to Pause. We use functional Yoga to build structural resilience, ground the feet, and release deep-seated physical tension.

Finding support that works for everyone is difficult. Many programs assume a level of physical fitness or mental engagement that your service users might not be able to offer right now.

At Permission to Pause, we keep it simple. We focus on physical mechanics to help the nervous system reset. It is non-clinical, requires zero flexibility, and no prior experience.

If you manage a support service in the Belper, Ripley, or Codnor area, you know how hard it is to get people to settle down.

Chronic stress changes the biology of the brain. When someone is trapped in survival mode, they cannot engage with the support services you are trying to provide. You cannot talk someone out of a nervous system that is already in full flight-or-flight.

I am Scott Straughan, founder of Permission to Pause. I work with organizations to provide simple, physical methods that help clients regulate their nervous systems. It is non-clinical, requires no prior experience, and is entirely safe.

I am currently looking to partner with local organizations to provide fully subsidized, free-of-charge pilot sessions.
