🏆 The Cathcart Award — Congratulations, Deirdre! 🏓

The Cathcart Award was kindly donated by the Cathcart family a few years back. Their son Owen, one of Ormeau’s most successful young players. Owen won the Swedish Junior Open, reached the world’s top 30 as a junior and now plays professionally in Sweden.

Each year, the award recognises a member who makes an outstanding voluntary contribution to our club—and we are delighted to present it to one of our very first members, Deirdre! ❤️

Deirdre has been an integral part of Ormeau’s story from the very beginning. She helped us launch our junior sessions by bringing along her grandchildren and their friends. She then arrived with her own friends, helping us establish our first adult session!

From providing food during our early Premier British League weekends and helping wherever needed, to regularly opening and closing our Social sessions, Deirdre has always been there for the club.

Coach Trevor was delighted to present Deirdre with the Cathcart Award last night in recognition of everything she has done.

Members like Deirdre are truly worth their weight in gold. Thank you for your loyalty, generosity and years of service to Ormeau—this award is thoroughly deserved! 👏

🏆 Daniel Crowned Our First Box League Champion! 🏓

Our first-ever Ormeau Box League concluded Monday night after four brilliant Monday evenings, with more than 20 players enjoying plenty of competitive matches, promotion and relegation!

Daniel finished the series in style, winning all three matches in Box 1 to become our first overall Box League champion. Chris secured second place with two wins from three.

The final-round results were:

🔴 Box 1: Daniel – Chris
⚫ Box 2: Breandan – Jonny
🔴 Box 3: Samuel – Lewis
⚫ Box 4: Mark – Juan Carlos
🔴 Box 5: Sadish – Stuart

Brendan, Samuel and Mark each recorded perfect three-from-three performances, while Sadish topped Box 5 on countback after winning two of his three matches.

Well done to everyone who took part and helped make our first Box League such a success! We’ll be back with another round in September before the new league season begins.

Two Fantastic NextGen Camps at Ormeau! 🏓

Over the past few weeks, we have hosted two brilliant NextGen camps for some of Ormeau’s most promising up-and-coming young players, alongside a few invited guests.

The players worked incredibly hard throughout both camps under the guidance of coaches Jennifer and Junior, developing their skills, movement and match play.

A special thank you to Ormeau performance players Chris, Jack, Euan, Toby and Peadar, who provided fantastic support and helped the younger players improve their games.

It was brilliant to see our experienced players giving something back and encouraging the next generation. Well done to everyone involved! 🏓

Ormeau Box League Off to a Flying Start! 🏓

Last night saw the launch of our first members Box League, with 20 players competing across five boxes!

Each player faced everyone in their box in best-of-five matches, with promotion and relegation adding plenty of excitement to every result.

🔴 Box 1: Daniel Flannigan topped a very competitive group on sets difference, with Daniel, Chris and Breandan all finishing with two wins and one loss. Unfortunately, Jeff Irvine was injured and will move down to Box 2.

⚫ Box 2: George Hood also came out on top through sets difference after George, Lewis and Michael each recorded two wins. George earns promotion to Box 1, while Jeff Harrison moves down to Box 3.

🔴 Box 3: Jonathan Fletcher delivered a perfect performance with three wins from three, earning promotion. Danny Power moves down to Box 4.

⚫ Box 4: Samuel also finished unbeaten and moves up to Box 3, while Andrew Owens drops into Box 5.

🔴 Box 5: Marc Edwards completed another unbeaten night, winning all three matches to secure promotion to Box 4.

A brilliant opening night with plenty of close matches and competitive table tennis! The matches continue next week.
