YMCA Belfast Judo Club

YMCA Belfast Judo Club The Belfast YMCA Judo Club ran from the 60s/70s until the late 1980s. It was based in Wellington Place YMCA until it relocated to Maysfield Leisure Centre.

The Judo club consisted of both male and female groups in both Junior & Seniors ranging from primary school age right up to adult. It operated all throughout the troubles and was one of the fewee clubs that truely had a cross community demographic populated by members from all over Belfast and further afield. The club had large numbers throughout it existance. It ran on Saturday morning and aftern

oon and other weekend evenings. The club entered many of it's members in for competitions here and in England. There were lots of social events and activities for the younger members as well as many social trips to places like Isle of Man, Donegal, Dublin etc.
