Everyone shares the track and field areas.

• Don’t shout across the track.
• Follow instructions from coaches, staff and officials.
• Stay clear of shot put, javelin, high jump and other field-event areas when in use.
• Keep bags, bottles and equipment off the track.
• Be patient and aware of other athletes.

Respect and awareness make the track safer for everyone.

↔️ SHARE THE TRACK

Faster runners may need to pass. Help keep everyone safe:

• If you hear “Track!”, move safely to an outer lane
• Give a clear verbal cue when overtaking
• Don’t cut back in too quickly
• Hold your line and avoid sudden movement

Good passing etiquette means safer, smoother training.

The Belfast International Classic once again showed why our track is becoming one of the most exciting athletics venues on these islands.

Three historic track records fell at the Belfast International Classic in one unforgettable day of athletics action!

⚡ Cardiff’s men stormed to a 39.87 4x100m relay
⚡ Henry McLuckie broke a 35-year-old 3000m record once held by Steve Ovett
⚡ Melissa Courtney-Bryant led an incredible women’s 1500m where SIX athletes finished inside the old record!

🛑 KEEP MOVING

The track is for running – not standing, chatting or stretching.

• Move off the track as soon as you finish your session.
• Never stop in lanes 1–2.
• Stretch, rest and talk in the designated areas.
• Keep bottles and equipment off the running lanes.

Standing still on the track puts everyone at risk.

👀 LOOK BEFORE YOU MOVE

Treat the track like a road.

Before crossing or changing lanes:
1. Stop and look
2. Check both directions
3. Wait for a safe gap
4. Move carefully

Stepping into a lane without looking can cause dangerous collisions.

Attention Track Users! ⚠️

The Mary Peters Track will be closed on Monday 4th May for the bank holiday.

We will be open as normal again on Tuesday.

🏃‍♂️ KNOW YOUR LANE

Different lanes are for different speeds.

• Lanes 1–2 = fast running and timed reps
• Lanes 3 & 4 = reserved for wheelchairs and frame running when applicable.
• Outer lanes = warm-ups, jogging and cool-downs
• Never walk in the inside lanes
• Move outwards when you finish a rep or slow down

Using the correct lane keeps the track organised and safe for everyone.

➡️ ALWAYS RUN ANTI-CLOCKWISE

Running the wrong way around the track can lead to confusion, collisions and injury.

Remember:
• Always run anti-clockwise unless a coach tells you otherwise
• Follow the flow of everyone else on the track
• Stay alert and watch for other athletes
• If someone is running the wrong way, politely let them know

The right direction keeps everyone safe.
