What a day in the Mournes!

Yesterday I was out working as a freelance Mountain Leader with Mourne Mountain Adventures, helping guide 47 people taking on the Seven Sevens Mourne Mountain Challenge.

It’s a serious day on the hills - taking in the seven highest peaks in the Mournes, covering around 30 km with approximately 9,000 ft of ascent over the course of the challenge.

With a group this size, everyone naturally moves at a different pace, so we split into groups to allow everyone to walk comfortably and safely at a pace that suited them. That’s why we ended up with two finishing photos - two groups, but one fantastic achievement!

A long and challenging day, but great craic, great teamwork and a brilliant effort from everyone who took part.

Congratulations to everyone who completed the Seven Sevens - you should be very proud of yourselves!

A fantastic day yesterday guiding the Mourne Seven Sevens Challenge with Robbie from Mourne Mountain Adventures.

Starting at Carrick Little, the group successfully summited seven peaks over 700m, covering 30km (18 miles) with an incredible 2,400m of ascent. Every participant completed the challenge safely and had a fantastic day in the Mournes.

Everyone takes on this challenge for their own reason—whether it’s a personal goal, testing themselves, or raising money for charity. It was really cool to be one of the Mountain Leaders supporting the group throughout.

🏔️ Mourne Seven Sevens Challenge Completed 🏔️

A fantastic day in the Mourne Mountains guiding the Seven Sevens route in extremely hot conditions.

✅ 7 highest peaks completed
✅ 29 km covered
✅ 2,300 m+ of elevation gain
✅ 9 hours on the move
✅ Super-hot mountain conditions throughout

The challenge involved traversing the highest peaks in the Mournes, covering rugged mountain terrain, steep ascents, rocky descents, and long ridge sections. A demanding but rewarding day in one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Ireland.

Proud to have guided the route from start to finish and to have completed the challenge safely in exactly 9 hours.

Lovely day had guiding on Blackwater river. We completed 8KM starting and finishing at the Moy and calling into the lovely Argory National Trust for a visit.

22 years since I last ran the Belfast City Marathon… and here we go again.

Training has reminded me that showing up matters. Early mornings, late evenings, wet weather and tired legs… but slowly building fitness week by week.

So far:
🏃‍♂️ 14 weeks of training
🏃‍♂️ 340+ miles completed

I’m running to raise funds for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, who provide vital support to individuals and families across Northern Ireland.

We offer fun, structured outdoor programmes for:
