Statement from the Committee of Cardinal O’Donnells GAC
The Committee of Cardinal O’Donnells GAC wishes to express its deep concern at the recent racist violence, intimidation, and disorder that has affected communities across the North.
As a club at the heart of West Belfast, we are proud of the strong sense of community, respect, and solidarity that defines our area. For generations, our community has understood the importance of standing together, supporting one another, and welcoming those who choose to make their home among us.
The scenes of racist attacks, intimidation, and hatred witnessed in recent days are deeply upsetting and have no place in any community. Every person, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, religion, or background, deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued.
Our club is built on the values of inclusion and belonging. We are proud that people from different backgrounds contribute to our community, our schools, our workplaces, and our society. Diversity strengthens communities and enriches all our lives.
We stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by these events and with any family who may feel frightened or isolated at this time. We want to send a clear message that there is far more that unites us than divides us.
We encourage all our members, supporters, and the wider community to challenge racism wherever it appears and to continue demonstrating the compassion, decency, and respect for which our community is known.
Cardinal O’Donnells GAC remains committed to creating an environment where everyone is welcome and where the values of respect, inclusion, and community are more than words—they are lived every day.
Ní neart go cur le chéile — there is no strength without unity.
