We’ve strayed so far away from functional human health that, as a society, we need a complete overhaul.
The women in their 50s and 60s who train with me consistently - even if that’s just a few one-to-one sessions to understand the fundamentals before joining classes - could run rings around many people in their 20s and 30s. They’re happier, more confident, stronger, more emotionally resilient and they move like they’re years younger.
The women over 50 who have never picked up weights are often a very different story. Many are terrified of hurting themselves, suffer injuries from the simplest things, struggle with excess weight, feel constantly tired, and are far more likely to develop metabolic disease.
Cardio alone doesn’t build muscle. Neither does a poor diet. Muscle is one of the greatest predictors of health, resilience, and longevity.
We need to prioritise what matters. Good news is, it’s never too late to start.
If you can afford an annual holiday or regular expensive nights out, you can afford to invest in your health, your education, and your future. It really is that simple.
It doesn’t have to cost a fortune. But if we continue to neglect it, the cost to our families, our communities, and the NHS will be far greater.
And if more people channelled their frustration, stress, and anger into building strength-both physically and mentally-we’d likely need less intervention, less crisis management, and perhaps we’d see less division in society.
Because pent-up emotion always finds somewhere to go.
You know exactly what I mean.
Wise up.
With love.
