Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club

Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club Who are we... NI Knights aims to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of disabled people in Northern Ireland through the sport of wheelchair basketball!

The Knights are a registered Charity set up in 1990 to provide opportunities for disabled people to get involved in team sport. The Knights promote a healthy lifestyle for disabled people and encourage social inclusion. Today the club has over 50 players coming from various parts of Northern Ireland ranging from total beginners up to elite players. The club has players aged 7yrs โ€“ mid forties and

caters for both male and female participants (wheelchair basketball is a mixed sport right up until International level). The Knights have a number of volunteers who give up their time to ensure that the Knights commitments and activities run smoothly. You do not have to be a permanent wheelchair user to play wheelchair basketball. The majority of the Knights players are those with lower limb disabilities e.g. Amputees, Paraplegic, Spina Bifida, however those with minimal disabilities also play e.g. permanent sports injuries and the club also has several non-disabled players training/competing at various levels within the club. The Clubs main training venue is at Hammer Youth Club, Agnes Street, Belfast BT13 3GG (parking available). There are weekly training sessions throughout the Basketball season (September โ€“ May). There is always additional training off season too for our senior members. Training Times: Thursday evenings
Venue: Hammer Youth Club, Agnes Street, Belfast, BT13 3GG

19:00 - 20:15 - Development session
20:30 - 22:00 - Senior session

The Knights are committed to the development of the sport & players and welcome new players of all ages throughout the year. The club has a number of โ€˜Club sports chairsโ€™ for new players to try out. Simply contact the Club Secretary or Coach for more information, we are always around to answer any questions you have.

Celebrating 35 Years of the Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club!

Weโ€™re thrilled to announce that 2025 marks 35 amazing years of Knights Wheelchair Basketball Clubโ€”a community of inclusivity, passion, and achievement! ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ’ช

From supporting children and adults with disabilities across Northern Ireland to competing on global stages like the Commonwealth Games and Paralympics, our journey has been extraordinary. ๐ŸŒŸ With members excelling in NI, GB & Irish Leagues, recreationally and professionally, we continue to push boundaries and inspire.

But we need YOUR support to make the next chapter even brighter! Hereโ€™s how you can get involved:

๐Ÿ’ผ Sponsor our Gala Celebration Event at Titanic Hotel Belfast in August for just ยฃ300โ€”gain season-long visibility on banners, local and social media.
๐ŸŽฝ Sponsor our new playing kits and training merchandise for our junior and senior squads. Why not get in touch to discuss options.
๐ŸŽ Donate prizes for our event raffle, volunteer your time/services, or contribute directly towards vital equipment like sports wheelchairs, which cost over ยฃ4,000 or helping parents & players access competitive and recreational opportunities which often means lengthy travel.

Together, we aim to renew focus on outreach campaigns, bring new development players onboard, and create tailored training programmes for all age groups. Letโ€™s build the foundation for the next 35 years and beyond.

Contact Sarah Beattie at [email protected] or message us on Facebook/Instagram for further details. Every contribution counts! Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club: Charity Number: NI 103381

Thank you for helping us continue this incredible journey.
