Gold & Silver Bowl Competition

Well today we have our first competition - the Gold & Silver Bowls.
Silver Bowl was first played for in 1855 and only 4 Clubs played in it. These were estate Clubs - Ardrossan, Dundonald, Irvine & Kilwinning.
The first winners were Irvine Bowling Club who later became Irvine Winton BC.
The Gold Bowl was added 2 years later - 1957 (same year as the Eglinton Jug).
This competition was for non estate Clubs in all of Ayrshire. After a bit of research I found that the first winners were Maybole BC - unfortunately although still in existence do not play in the Competition anymore.

So the scoring goes as follows - all the scores are added up - Estate Clubs and Non Estate Clubs - highest up on the winning side receives the Gold Bowl and highest up on the losing side receives the Silver Bowl.
The Clubs put out 2 rinks and play 21 ends - if due to inclement weather the games can't finish then 11 ends will constitute as the game played and result will count.
Weather not looking great at the moment but have a great day.

The 13th Earl of Eglinton and Winton presented these trophies and we have asked the current Earl who is the 19th Earl of Eglinton and 7th Earl of Winton to come along to our Finals Day in August to present these trophies to the winners.

Fantastic turnout for the Anne McCorquodale Memorial Day.
