It’s been a while since we posted!
But last night, while club night wasn’t on, we had a great social at the driving range! ⛳️ 🏌️
Some had some more expert skills, and some were more in the beginner category, but we had some drinks and good laughs too. And if anyone knows what Mike is doing, please let us know! 😂

Next Thursday (3rd March) we have Barry from sport scene in Beaconsfield coming down to club night with the Yonex demo racket bag!

It’s a great chance for us to try out a range of Yonex rackets in the games throughout the night, and to ask any questions. If you are interested in buying there will also be the usual discount available (I think it’s 15%…tbc).

Looking forward to testing some new 🏸🏸!

*Match report* - Ladies teams, 7th - 13th Feb!

It’s the end of the week, and this seemed to be the busiest week our Ladies Team has EVER had with 4 matches across the week. So settle in, maybe get a cup of tea ☕️ (or a wine 🍷), and see how we did!

Match #1
So first up, on Monday, Leonie, Amy, Claire and Serena made their way to Slough for an away game against Cygnets. This match saw the resurrection of the previous Racqueteers pairing of Amy & Claire, and Serena and Leonie. The slippery floor was a cause for concern but it didn’t affect the team, despite a few close games with scores of 22-20 and 21-19, the match resulted in a solid 6-0 win for the team, with every rubber won in 2 games - what a great start to the week! 🙌🏼✨

Match #2
On Wednesday, Leonie, Immy, Claire & Serena made their way to the Badminton Centre for the second game against Dragons. Upon arriving, finding out we’d only have 1 court til 9:30pm, we knew it was going to be a long night…then finding ourselves playing against one of Beaconsfield’s newest members Steph, it was now going to be a long AND tough match.

After the first two games, we were 2-0 down, Immy & Serena were outplayed by Steph and her partner and Leonie & Claire, despite taking their game to 3 couldn’t quite bring the win back. Leading Claire to decide that she plays better hungover (reflecting on the state she was in last time we played Dragons 🥴). Serena & Immy managed to take a win against Dragon’s second pair, so heading 3-1 into the split there was still a chance we could draw. 🤞🏼

Claire & Serena, despite losing to 18 in the first game couldn’t take the lead so lost their rubber, and came off court to find out that Immy & Leonie were taking their rubber to 3, after losing the first game 21-19 and winning the second 24-22! 😱 There was no telling which way it was going to go in the third. Leonie was clearly determined to get her money’s worth, having taken every rubber to 3! After a nail biting game, they brought back a win of 23-21 - you can’t get a rubber much closer than this one!

The end result was 4-2 to Dragons but we’ve still got two more chances to redeem ourselves against Dragons, and we’re ready for the challenge so bring it on! 💪🏼

Match #3
Thursday saw Katie, Serena, Immy and Joyce play at home on club night against East Berks. Serena had some great insider knowledge against the opposition, meaning we started strong and won the first two games to sub 12 in all rubbers. An injury to one of the opposition meant that the fourth rubber was cut short, and the switch was forfeited, but the other pairs continued to play. Immy and Serena played the final switch game against the strongest two players, and brought it home with a 21-15 21-15 win. Our second 6-0 win of the week 👏🏼👏🏼

Match #4
The final match of the week saw, Claire, Amy, Mitali and Serena take on Bohemians, with Mitali making her debut for the season it was all to play for! 🏸 After a comfortable first few games were up 4-0 going into the split, despite Amy not feeling her best (cough hungover cough 😂). Claire and Serena had a close first game with a score of 23-21 but won the second comfortably with a score of 21-14. Amy and Mitali, made an amazing comeback after losing the first game 21-14, to then winning the second 21-18 and the third 21-16. Adding another 6-0 win to our record 🏆

A fantastic week of Ladies badminton at BBC - an incredible three 6-0 wins should mean the other ladies team are quivering in fear at the thought of playing us next! Well done to everyone who played 🤩

*BBC Social - All England 2022*

We have been offered 20 FREE tickets for the All England 2022 in Birmingham. This is a perk of us being a premier club with Badminton England.
The date we have tickets for is Wednesday 16th March, and are available on a first come first serve basis. I have added a session to PlayWaze in order for you to claim your ticket, so please mark yourself as attending if you’d like to come!
Currently this is for club members only, and if we have a surplus we can offer them out to family too.
Covid years apart, a group from the club have been going for many years and it’s always a great day out 😄

*Match Report* - Sunday 23rd January

“Do you not know defeat when you see it? This is my hour” said the Great Leader of Reading & Country after winning the first rubber.
Undeterred, the BBC stand-in Captain had hope “Callum, take your team down the left flank. Adam, follow the Kings banner down the centre. Rich, take your company right after you’ve passed the net. Forth, and fear no darkness.
Arise, arise, players of Beaconsfield! Nets shall be shaken, racquets shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the bright lights of Beaconsfield rises! *Trumpets play*
Play now, play now, play! Play for ruin and the world’s ending! Forth Beaconsfield!”
In the year of our lord 2022, patriots of BBC, starving, outnumbered and slightly hungover, charged the great halls of BHS. They played like warrior poets, they fought like Beaconsfieldmen, they won their freedom. But lost 5-1.

*Match Report* - Thursday 27th January

Matches are coming thick and fast!

Immy, Amy, Leonie & Joyce made a trip across the road for a ladies match last night. Amy’s newly painted nails gave us that extra sparkle and we brought home a strong 6-0 win against Chalfont Monday 🌟

*Match Report* - Sunday 23rd January

For the first Wycombe ladies match of the season, Leonie & Claire, Serena & Katie turned up for a home game against Dragons. Knowing we will face them four times in the coming months in both the Wycombe and Chalfont leagues, we knew we had to put in a strong performance for the first game!

Now is the point in which I might comment on particular match scores or good performances, however having misplaced the scorecard, I can’t *exactly* remember what happened… 🤣 I do know that we were facing an uphill struggle with one of our team members feeling slightly worse for wear (though I won’t mention who 😉). It was 2-2 going into the split game, with Dragons having had one very strong pairing which were tough to beat. Katie & Leonie fought hard and won the final game, meaning the match result was a 3-3 draw.

Onwards to the next game 💪
