So Facebook memories has triggered some questions…
3 years ago I was days into recovery from my spinal surgery.
However what’s really interesting is that looking further back, I see that with alarming regularity and consistency, around this time of year, pretty much every year…
I have some sort of major health catastrophe.
My broken arm.
The surgery to have the plate removed from the arm a few years later because the screws were coming loose.
The broken rib and subsequent infections from being kicked in the back by a horse.
The viral infection that had me bed bound for 2 weeks.
The chronic back pain that always flared up around this time and meant I was negative and frustrated about missing Summer.
The insect bite that got infected and had me on antibiotics…
And so on…
I talk about this with patients and recognise it within myself, about the patterns, beliefs and events we almost manifest subconsciously through the behaviours and choices we make.
Now that might sound absurd but there’s no doubt in my mind that the reason this year is different, is because I no longer identify as the person I was…
On any level
Which means I’m regulated
Calm
Discerning
Patient
In ways I never used to be…
And that has and is constantly changing my internal and external world and breaking patterns that I hadn’t even noticed were happening.
So memories are fantastic, but so is giving yourself the mental freedom from them.
Life is possible, recovery is possible, change is possible…
But it comes on the other side of the prison bars you’ve built for yourself.
