BTFC Enjoy Golf Day
Twelve of the very best footballing golfers gathered at Wellshurst GC for the 2026 BTFC Masters Tournament.
Players from all over the club, including 1 Veteran, 3 Mens, 3 Axes, and 5 Knights, endured some challenging weather conditions as they contested an 18-hole Stableford Competition.
Goalkeeper Tom Cann saved his best for the par-3 fifth hole where he won the Nearest-the-Pin prize, whilst the trophy for Longest Drive went to Battle Knight Mike Gould with a monster tee shot on the 14th.
Strong winds and driving rain provided a testing challenge for the dozy dozen competing for this most prized accolade in the golfing calendar.
When the cards were collected and scores ratified, it was a close finish, with Sue and Vicky Reeves from the Axes each finishing joint 3rd on an excellent 35 points.
However, at the very top of the leaderboard, previous champion Glen Carrick and DoF Gary Walsh couldnt be seperated with 37 points each. Following a tense wait on the 19th hole, Walshy was awarded the very first ever Orange Jacket, narrowly winning on count back, thanks to his 21 points on the back nine, versus Carrick's 20.
.. an incredibly tight finish to a really enjoyable, if not wet, day's play, in which everyone proved to be a winner!
A massive thanks goes to Club Secretary Gary Wenham who organised the whole day which started with the statutory bacon bap, and ended with clubhouse coffees and celebratory beers.
Let's all do it again next year!!
