Safe Spaces 🥊

For the second year in a row, we asked a sample group of participants on our Strong for Life holiday camps, (aged 8 - 12) the following question:

“Do you think there are enough safe spaces in the community to socialise with friends, (outside of school)?”

⭐️ In 2025, 76.5% said no (17 children asked)
⭐️ In 2026, 76.9% said no (13 children asked)

Children and young people themselves are recognising the lack of services available for them in the local community, highlighting just why the work of community organisations, (like Training Cave), is more important than ever 🥊🥊🥊

It's an official recognition of what we've been building for years through our community work, holiday programmes , school and referral partnerships across Kirklees.

After School Youth Programme 🥊

This programme allows us to build on our Youth Programme allowing parents to refer their own children to us, and enables us to continue supporting children and young people in our community.

Participants will attend a free six week programme of small group training to build up their confidence, before graduating to our timetabled classes on a referral basis (providing they feel ready).

This programme aims to provide sporting opportunities and positive actions to local children and young people with an interest in boxing and sports, but who lack the financial means to attend our timetabled classes.

If you are the parent or guardian of a child or young person who could benefit from this programme, (aged 6-18), please email [email protected] to request a referral form and check eligibility.

What's the impact on kids when physical education gets cut?

PE is now the most frequently cancelled subject in schools.

For a lot of kids, that's an inconvenience. A club, a team, a parent who can drive them to training covers the gap.

For a lot of the young people we work with, school was the only sport they had.

No club. No kit. No lift there and back.

If it's not happening in school hours, it's not happening at all.
This is what that actually looks like on the ground — and why we build every Training Cave education session around movement.

Invest in young people. Invest in the community. Invest in real change. 🥊

Last year, Training Cave generated £455,184 in social value — that's £3.84 back for every £1 invested and 1,744 young people reached across 2024/25.

For a lot of our members, this isn't just a boxing club. Some come to us as NEETs, on the edge of being excluded from school or written off before they've had a proper chance. What turns that around is work placements, skills and someone believing in them enough to give them a shot. We've seen kids go from suspended and struggling to apprenticeships, national titles and jobs they're proud of.

We're now looking for local businesses who want to be part of that — whether that's offering work placements, hosting a business exposure day, or becoming a named partner.
