Batley U11s v Hunslet U11s – Match Report
On a warm summer evening in Hunslet, Batley U11s arrived with intent, and by the final whistle they had produced a rugby masterclass, crossing the line an incredible 11 times in a thrilling display of attacking rugby that left the home side chasing shadows.
The first act belonged to the electric Elliott. Fielding the ball deep inside his own half, the fearless full-back danced and weaved through the Hunslet defence as if they were standing still. Defenders reached for jerseys but found only fresh air as he surged over for the opening try of what would become a remarkable hat-trick. Time and again he tormented the Hunslet defence with his elusive running, adding two further tries to complete a superb individual performance. It was a display worthy of the Player of the Match award, with his fearless kick returns and rock-solid defence setting the standard for the evening.
Pulling the strings behind the pack was chief conductor Arlie, whose speed, vision and determination proved impossible to contain. The lively scrum-half darted through gaps at will to grab his first try before adding a second later in the contest. The latter came courtesy of some wonderful awareness from Isabella, whose perfectly timed pass sent Arlie racing clear to score beneath the posts.
Up front, Max was in no mood for subtlety. The powerhouse prop battered his way towards the line time and time again, eventually crashing over twice. Both tries were built on sheer determination, combining brute force with a clever spin move that left defenders hanging from his shoulders as he grounded the ball.
Then came the moment that brought gasps from both sidelines. Nathan exploded onto the ball like a runaway locomotive, shrugging off defenders and accelerating into open space. With Hunslet desperately scrambling in pursuit, he stormed the length of the field to score a sensational solo try.
At ho**er, Cohen was the architect of much of Batley’s attacking success. His sharp distribution kept the team moving forward, and fittingly he was rewarded with a try of his own from close range after another intelligent display.
Tobias carried with strength and purpose throughout the evening and was eventually rewarded when he finished off one of Batley’s finest team moves. The move was completed by a perfectly weighted final pass from Joseph, who later lit up the contest himself with another trademark try, slicing through the Hunslet defence and leaving a trail of beaten defenders behind him.
The tireless Isla and Freddie were at their relentless best. Whether carrying the ball into heavy traffic or throwing themselves into tackles, both youngsters gave everything for the team and never took a backward step.
Meanwhile, Aleesha caused chaos whenever she touched the ball. Her relentless running and fearless attacking play repeatedly stretched the Hunslet defence to breaking point. It was a display packed with energy, determination and skill, earning her a well-deserved share of the Player of the Match honours.
The ever-improving Harper produced a tackling clinic. Time and again she shut down Hunslet attacks with crunching tackles and powerful carries, underlining her growing reputation as one of the team’s toughest competitors.
At ho**er, Lydia buzzed around the field with endless energy, constantly probing for opportunities and keeping defenders on alert. Amelia was equally impressive, flying out of the defensive line with lightning speed and forcing mistake after mistake from the opposition.
From first whistle to last, this was Batley U11s at their brilliant best. Powerful in defence, ruthless in attack and united in spirit, the boys and girls produced a performance full of flair, determination and teamwork. Nine tries told only part of the story. Led by Elliott’s stunning hat-trick and packed with standout performances across the field, this was a team playing with confidence, courage and togetherness—and on this evidence, there is plenty more to come.
